Dr. Rick Warren Statement

by Team Huckabee

Dr. Rick Warren recently made this statement discussing Governor Huckabee on a radio program:

“I know most of the candidates running for president but I’ve known Mike Huckabee the longest, since we did our graduate degrees together in the late 70s. Mike’s a man of vision, compassion, and integrity. I’ve watched his uncanny ability to identify with normal people in ways that many leaders don’t. That’s probably why TIME named him one of the five best governors in America. He’s definitely presidential material. But honestly, what I find most appealing is his self-deprecating humor. That’s a key sign of a spiritually and emotionally healthy leader - someone who is comfortable with himself, is authentic, doesn’t wear a mask, and is secure enough to be humble. People love that.”

The article goes on to say that Huckabee's church is on board with Warren's P.E.A.C.E. plan, as well as, his "Celebrate Recovery" program. I would appreciate if anyone has any information to confirm or refute this. Since he is leading so far on the Republican side, we need to know where he really stands. (I kinda got burned w/ Bush  )

An ABC article (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/Story?id=3894906&page=3) seems to confirm.

Excerpt:

Huckabee Makes Crucial Gains Among GOP Base
GOP Underdog Says Caucus Momentum Will Propel Campaign to Party Nomination

...As a former Baptist preacher and president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention from 1989 to 1991, Huckabee proudly says that his faith informs his politics.

Huckabee says the church he attends in Little Rock is modeled after the Saddleback Church in California, led by the popular Rev. Rick Warren — with whom Huckabee attended seminary — and he suggests he sides with Warren in the chasm between those more traditional members of the so-called Christian right, and those who think evangelicals should focus on other issues beyond abortion and same-sex marriage.

"I think it's appropriate to talk about things like traditional marriage and the sanctity of life," Huckabee said. "But I also think we've got to talk about hunger and poverty and housing. We've got to talk about disease, not just AIDS but chronic disease and how it touches us, how it disrupts our economy as well as our lives and our future." ...

The best favor the Republicans can do for Democrats is to give the nomination to that fool.
