Need help please! I bought a ham to can and realized I don't have a recipe for it. Anyone can ham here? Thought it would be good for quick ham and green beans or bean soup. Deemy :?:

yes, i do. I can it all the time.cook your ham. I usually do mine in a roaster, but with water added. I have an electric roaster. Or you can boil it, then take all meat that you can get off the bone. pack in hot jars, fill jar with broth. Now run a butter knife around the inside if the jars, to get out all air bubbles. now put on your lid, and ring. and pressure, for 90 minutes for quarts, and 70 minutes for pints, at 10 pound pressure.
you can also raw pack, when i raw pack, I extend my processing time.
ok now, boil that bone. and let it cook along time.
I usually, get a nice 10 or 12 quart stock pot, some times larger, and i put my ham bone in it. and fill 3/4 full of water, set on back of stove, now simmer it for 24 hours, put a lid on, if you want.
but i let it go on s slow simmer. then I can up the broth. wonderful for noodles, oh so wonderful for soup stock, or to cook beans in. really great. I usually chunk my ham, that i can.
then when I open it, I can make ham salad, scalloped potatoes and ham, or what ever, and Dave the broth in the jar for rice, beans, or what ever.

I cook my ham before canning it up also. Helps get some of the fats out that way. Never thought to boil the bone up. We usually just stick that in the freezer and get it out when DH does up a big pot of beans on the wood stove.
