I picked up a little book, "Homemade Cracker Recipes" by Jim Long the other day at Richters Herbs when I was picking up seeds. What a great little book. I have 5 children and they can polish off a box of crackers, even Saltines in no time flat. I tried the Parmesan cheese crackers the other day. They were delicious and we topped them with a garlic herb mix. Needless to say they were consumed that afternoon. The recipes are very easy with ingredients you would have in the kitchen and make up very quickly.
Just thought I would pass this along, as I think we need to be thinking in terms of basic ingredients and what can we make, rather than what can we buy.

Thanks to everyone for any cracker recipes, copied 'em down and waiting for any more!
Also, mom - I got a question (hope you see this!)
There's a deal on grapefruit right now - three for a dollar. I never thought of canning grapefruit before, have you done it, and if so (you probably have!) how did it come out? I'd rather eat them fresh, but I'd rather have them canned then none!
thanks so much for all your info.

I have not , because i am allergic. but it is easy. peel your fruit, break into sections.
have your jars sterilized, now
make a syrup, fill your jars with your grapefruit sections, now pour the hot syrup over the sections, put on hot lids an rings, now process, in boiling water, [an make sure the water covers the jars by one inch at least .
and process both pints and quarts for 10 minutes.
make sure the water is boiling before you put in your jars, and your processing time starts after you have your jars in the water, and the water starts boiling.
syrup. for a medium syrup, put 3 cups of sugar per quart of water, bring to a boil.
you can adjust this accordanly to how your family likes it.

Thanks a bunch, momof23goats! If they are still on sale on my next town day (thinking of sooner rather than later 'cause I feel like bad things are coming very soon....) - I will get lots of them.
