My son just accidently put 2-cycle engine oil mixture in my gas tank. It was in an unmarked gas can...he was putting gas in my car so I could make it up to the gas station...(I'm nearly on E!)

Will this affect my car?

The two cycle has oil added to it.

You will blow smoke maybe, Get to the station fill it as normal and drive, as normal. When that tank is empty, next week, have you mechanic clean you plugs. Shouldn't be a problem.

Run a tank with Lucas injector cleaner to get anything left off the inside of your engine.

Thanks Navajo. I had visions of gumming everything up in my engine and having it seize up on me.

ETA:DreadPirate's my mechanic...he should be thrilled!

Buttercup, dilute it as much as possible as quickly as possible. If you have additional fuel in another can use that. The Oil in 2-stroke mix will not do well in the valve guides of your exhaust valves, and can even cause them to stick (open) if you burn it for very long. The Exhaust valve stems get much too hot for the properties of the 2-stroke oil, and deposits will accumulate quickly. This will gum up the valve stems and turn to a solid.

Once diluted with adequate straight gas this should be much les likely...

I don't want to take away from what Bear said. But I have been around two strokes all my life. Have 22 setting in the garage. Modern two stroke oils burn really clean. Most are synthetic and If you fill your tank it may smoke a little but I don't believe you will see any negative effects. There will just be to much dilution. Now if it was the old two stroke oil there would be a chance that you could gum something up maybe. But most mixes are 32-1 or 4oz to a gal. So if you fill up the ratio will be super thin.

I'm not to worried about it. I have been around motors in general for a long time. Never have had a problem with using it in a pinch. The worst it would do is foul out the plugs after an extended period. ;-)

Who would of thought.......

Thanks everyone. Put gas in the tank...drove to church...no funny smells or sounds...back home safely...lesson learned! :-)
