OK plan on building a big green house. This will be in snow country so a steep roof will be needed.

I plan on using that clear coougated polycarbonate panels found at Home Depot.

Any suggestions or pictures avaialble.

I have googled this afew times and didn't find anything close to what I needed.

I would like to have the middle open and not have to use any poles so what kind of tusses would I need? 2x6 would that be enough.

Need to do this as cheap as possible so fancy custon joist are not going to happen.

Could you make any of these plans work for you?

housewolf had pictures of his greenhouse in the kitchen. here is the thread:

also, just an idea...

you could spray some clear teflon spray on the roof to make the snow slide off so you don't have as much trouble after the snow, and the plants will get optimum sun exposure

Clear Teflon spray. Now that's a new one on me. I had to go look it up. I didn't know there was such a thing! I can think of a lot of uses for that!

2X6 rafters spaced 16 inches on center. Run 1X6 lath boards at 2 foot on center over the rafters at 90 degres. Make your walls out of 2X4 with 2 top plates. If you use pressure treated it will last a lot longer. Set all of this ontop of a trench of white gravel 12-24 inches deep (depending on your local freeze depth. I would use at least an 8-10 pitch roof and put coller ties 2/3 rds of the way down from the ridge. Use a good 2X8 for your ridge. Remember to over build as you wount have the traditional sheathing that a house or garadge would.

I'll try to make a drawing for you when I get a chance. I just don't know when that will be.

ETA: If I still lived in Reno I would just come over and help.....

Nav, I built two 14 x 25 greenhouses in western SD at 6,000' elevation, LOTS of snow. These sweeties were still up and working after 15 years! The material is LOTS cheaper than those panels and seems to last forever.

belle,
if you use it on something outside that you want to keep the snow off with less effort, try this:
in the fall before the snow, spray the teflon coated surface with pam cooking spray. it will make it extra slippery, and the snow will slide off easier. usually only have to spray it once for the winter.
