Well, I hope you are wrong but probably not.
It is interesting because the trees were very light with leaves and that points to a mild winter.
We will know by January.
The positive side of this is that it embarrasses Al Gore.

You need to play "Inconvient truth " movie for them and show them how it isn't really neccessary for those heavy coats.

Within the past 3 weeks our chickens and turkey have gotten quite a bit of down on them. But then of course, local weather said we could see snow on Sunday. MOM, we are south of you. Weathermen and AG are known to be wrong.
Our trees took forever to lose their leaves, but the changed colors and shed the leaves all in one week instead of the slow change and slow drops. Shoot, my DH and I have been blowing leaves all week.

We are getting sleet right now. At least the snow won't stick quite yet (hopefully). I still have 2 bushel of pears on the front porch to take care of yet. Hope your ready to start hunkering down mom. I have waited all summer to be able to start on a new quilt for a new grandbaby due in April. But, I now have 3 fund raisers I am working on for the month of November. Oh well, you gotta make the money while you can.

Or it could be a sign that they were stressed during spring and summer. Our trees last year had were light on the leaves and we had an early, long and then very cold, winter followed by a lot of flooding this spring/summer. This year the trees are incredibly heavy with leaves and fruit/seeds. The animals have been fattening up for some time and I've noticed the birds are heavy on the feathers this year. Farmer's Almanac states an early winter for the plains/prairie which we live on the cusp of, heavy snows and then bitterly cold in Jan/Feb with it becoming dry.
I haven't been back since August but I read somewhere that the almanac has been updated since August.

NO animals don't get heavier winter coats because of stress. I think this is just going to be one of those winters.
