he did it ,the rat. i was bathing one of the poms, Scrappy, [that is a whole another story, ],i looked out, who is in the main doe pen, and what is that he is doing?
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, yes, Cldye got into the main doe pen, and had most of them bred, before I could get the pom out of the kitchen sink. the rat. I went out yelling, banging on a pot, got the hose, water won't do it.And it is to cold to use water, so dropped the hose.
Clyde will be father of the year. DANG!!!!! there go the blood lines for this year.
I got into the pen, to get Clyde, the girls are running defense for Clyde, well, after about what seems like hours, I am worn out, more girls are happy, and I come into the house in total defeat. call dh, tell him the news, he says he is sorry, HE is sorry? dang. I could have 40 babies all in one week, and he is sorry? I figure he got about 20 does so far. at least.
He has staying power that is for sure. so 40 babies is low. I am just hoping that they all don't come into heat before I can have help to catch him.
yeah i know fat chance of that.
well,I am trying to find a silver lining in all of this, and I can't find it. well, I will have plenty of milk.cheese, yogurt, and what ever, for sure.any body want to help with kidding this year, seems like the last week of march is going to be really busy.  what a stud, for sure.

I am so sorry this happened. Knowing your blessed heart - you will find the blessing in it now or in the future. God knows what is coming and maybe this is in preparation for that day.

If I am able, I will come out and help you when the birthing takes place and the little ones need any help.

What is the gestation?

WOW. mom, I know at this moment this is not funny. However, anybody who has ever lived on a farm knows life is always moving. I could not stop laughing. Your description of clydes advantures is entertaining. Oh, and the DH who is away from the farm, bless your heart. If time and weather is permiting, I would be glad to come your way and help with birthing. I have never had goats, but sheep and calves. Did you give clyde a cigar and send him to the corner?

Well you may be more help than I would as I have only birthed my own kids, about 200 puppies (from canines, not me;), and guppies.

Don't know a thing about goats but certainly love animals and the birthing process and helping with babies of all species.

Oh, Mom23, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean THIS when I said you sounded like James Herriott!!! But unfortunately you are looking more and more like you've got the subject matter for his writing career!!!

Would you mind if I PM'd you with a question?

Mom, how big did you say your kitchen was? That's a lot of kids in there! With our buck escape last week, we'll only have seven due mid-march but that means 14 kids. If the U.P. weren't so far away, I'd come and help too! There's always next years' bloodlines to continue. sigh.

Well ,my kitchen is 23 by 27. and they will have to be brought in and taken care of. then after a couple of days, they will go into the garage, with lots of lights and such. just spoke with hubby, and he will be making me a kiddy pen before march. and i will have baby monitors set up, for those late night calls. should get really interesting, for sure. I will be a praying over those gals for sure.
DiV. ahead and pm me, sure. that is fine. I've got a lot of years in on birthing, so It will be fun.
well, really , one good thing about this is , Clyde is small, so for the first timers, it means an easier birth.
NOw then I will have a good line up for milking this year. and bottle feeding. now that will take some time for sure.
I just pray I don't have 6 foot of snow to run through. Guess I better count my bottles, I will probably need new ones, and a ton of nipples.
oh for joy, new babies are always nice for sure. sweet things that they are , then they start jumping, and twirling all over the place, what fun . NOw some of my gals throw triplets, and quads. so this could get interesting for sure.
all you that want to volunteer your help might want to rethink it. it is work, and allot of babies, they wet and poop on ya some times. lol and kiss ya, so it makes up for it all.
But you all know, the way things are going, this could be a huge blessing. milk, cheese, meat, if needed. a huge blessing for sure. Just going to be a ton of work, for me , for about 3 weeks, for sure. could barter part of the milk. ya never know, what GOD has in store. and I am sure , much to my dismay, GOD was on Clyde's side today for sure.
so I guess it is meant to be.

Hey Mom - I just had a thought - maybe he was just going through the motions after the first one or two and had 'used up' all the little treasures that makes the babies.

It isn't an inexhaustive supply after all. At least I don't think so ;)

LOL!!! Clyde!! Well, anyway, Momof23. think of it this way--You will not be up at all times in the night in April and May!

Maybe we should all send you a pound of coffee to get through March though--sounds like it may be a month of little sleep.

Wonder what Clyde will do tomorrow....

Hey Momof 23Goats - are you going to have to change your name?
Mom of 63+ goats?

nope I am going to keep momof23goats. Emily, I can guarantee you
Clyde was shooting loaded bullets for sure. He is a great little Buck, he never has misses. nope not that boy. and he usually make girls too .so we shall see. I think he has only given one boy. It is going to be really interesting .
I will try again tomorrow to get him out. but those gals of mine all turned into hussies , just like that, and were keeping me from him. standing and running defense , like I said. I couldn't even get close to their man .
since he has been out 2 mornings in a row, I would say, that clyde has had a head start, and I just caught him today. I will lay odds that he has nailed every gal on the place. Time will tell, about the end of march going to get real busy. It takes 5 months for the babies to be born.so the last week or 2 of march is going to be really busy here.
DianV, sure feel free to PM me.

You've brought up a very good point...getting those kidding supplies early, like now! I usually save soda bottles all through the winter, then order nipples and milk filters as spring approaches. What if these companies are no longer in business? What if there's no internet to order from?
Just added to prep list:
milk filters
pritchard and lambar nipples
neck tags for adults and kids
any syringes/needles, medical supplies

AND
cheese cultures galore!

Thanks mom for making think of these things!

Oh, this is funny! When you have animals, there's no time to be bored, for sure!

I do have to say, though, that the Clydes of the world are the main reason why I like to stick to one breed at a time! I have two goats right now whose mother was the result of a Boer buck jumping a fence and breeding a show Oberhasli doe (I didn't own them, bought their offspring later).

Well, today started out with a bang. Clyde, was not in the pen with the does!!! He was out, and called one of my does out. so out I go, I got Silver back in the pen, [she had had enough of Clyde], so it seems, But I was a complete failure with my little goat.
Let me tell you about Clyde's pen. he has a stall in the barn a huge horse stall, that he shares with 3 other bucks, and a door that is open to their yard. it is huge, and it is covered with wire fencing. all except just a corner of it. and the sides there are high well over 6 ft.OI am talking it has a roof of fencing on it. Now the stall is completely board up to the ceiling of the barn, because of Clyde. He spent the day, going from the older does pen, to the yearlings. calling to them all, just in case he has missed any. I came in sore, dirty, smelling like buck in rut. Clyde is still loose. MY son came , and he was sure he could get Clyde in , yeah right ,so friday, there will be more people here, and we will get him.i would sell him off, but he is just the cutest little fella, and a proven good buck, no question about that , he is a great buck.
and just as cute as can be, but at the moment the biggest pain I have on the homestead. Well, maybe not the biggest pain, the pom male I have would probably win hands down , but that is a whole other story.
I have most of my supplies, I just need to get some BO SE, and another kind of wormer, I will get new nipples, and that should do it. I use pop bottle too, for the full sized nubians, but I have a good line of the mini nubians, so I use the reg. baby bottles with the small ones. I got plenty of filters for the milk, and things for cheese. so I am good to go. I will probably get a fresh bottle of pen g. and a couple other things, but i am pretty set. I try to keep those things on hand. and plenty of it. for just in case. I think I will go to sams club, and get another bundle of industrial towels, they are terry an a nice big square, perfect for wiping off babies.
