Hi Folks,

We just wanted to write in, and say that our new buck, MacDuff, has arrived! He's a purebred Oberhasli that we've been waiting on, well, ever since he was born 8 months ago. A friend down in Florida sold him to us, and we expect great things from this gorgeous young fella. He was "put to work" right away, and didn't seem to mind.

We are so thankful to have MacDuff here safe and sound with what we expect is coming round the bend. New genetics in the herd are something we're very excited about. We're breeding 19 girls this year, and MacDuff will be used on about 6-7 of them. He got here a little late in the season, but better late than never.

The Lord gave us a beautiful travel day, just like we had hoped. Friday was bad.....Sunday was predicted to be bad. But Saturday worked out just fine to make the trip!

We're trying to find a way to post a picture on here of our new guy. Once we figure it out, and you guys can see him, you'll see why we're so excited.

Congrats on your new addition! Unfortunately, I don't know what a Oberhasli is, so I'll anxiously await your photos. For now I'll assume it's a goat, based on your avatar.

Uh-oh. Momof23goats' four-legged loverboy Clyde now has competition in the romance department.

We await the salacious details! May MacDuff be fruitful and multiply.

Liberty... an Oberhasli is a dairy goat breed that has very distinct brown and black color patterns. 8)

Looking forward to seeing pics! I have a soft spot for Obbies----our last heard sire was an American Alpine buck out of the National ADGA champions Mallow/Sasin lineage (AI'ed out of a permenat grand Champion doe); in the 60's or 70's there was a heard of Obbies that flourished and then broke up and dissappeared in Callifornia when the owners died, and folks thought that might have been Mallow's ancestry. She was a bay color. Her grandson, our buck, was all black.

We had to give the goats up in the 80's when we had a huge drought in Indiana and I had to choose between feeding my four legged kids or my two legged ones. :o(((( I still miss the goats.

This is a pic of the mighty MacDuff. Hopefully I've gotten this attachment thingy down.
Limner, do you recall the name of the herd from California that Mallow's ancestry might have been from? We like to study Ober genetics and their history is interesting. So many found their way into the Alpine herdbooks before the breed was official. Sounds like this is what happened to Mallow.

MacDuff currently, as I type, has his knobby little head stuck through the fence for the umpteenth time this morning. There are two "young things" next door and he is a'courtin' them. One is slightly interested, but the other is whacking his poor head back and forth. You'd think he'd mind! But alas, "love" is blind. He may be before long if I don't get out there...
