I have a 65 acre parcel of land and on it is a small meadow of marginal soil. I would like to plant some wild fruit and vegtables that don't need much tending. I've thought about fruit trees but the moose will get them.
Any suggestions for zone 1,2, harty bushes or bramble fruits.

Mods please move this thread as needed.

I would suggest you sow it to Alsike Clover to build the soil back up, if it's a wet meadow. Makes excellent hay, too, but it will bloat and kill cattle and horses if they can graze it green, so use white clover if this is in a pasture.

You can then plant whatever berries/bee hives you like.

You might want to think about grape vines. Grapes are able to pull nutrients up from very deep, and the odd thing about grapes is that the harsher the conditions, the better the grapes. Ice wines from your part of the country command very high prices all over the world.

Hiya, gojoe

First I would start with your local greenhouse or nursery they might know best what varieties grow best in your area.

You might check out this link to a forum that I like it covers different areas (north, south, etc) and ask there also.

And here is a website that list a few nurseries in Canada (scroll down just a bit)

Good luck and let us know what you find! :-D
