In addition to all the "normal" puppy behavior of chewing, biting, eating everything that is no totally out of their reach, one of the "royal infants" has decided she is a "water dog"!! She sets her elbows on the edge of the crockery dog bowl that holds their water, and proceeds to splash her two front paws in the water JUST like a baby playing in the bath tub!! It is really ADORABLE, :-D funny  and cute as can be.....however, after the third time today, my floor is still wet and I'm tired of mopping!
ANY one have ANY idea WHY she is doing this?? Have you ever seen another dog act like this??

We had 2 Schipperke pups that did that. Then they stopped when we got them a big Rubbermaid container filled with water for a puppy pool. I think they outgrew playing in the water.

She is just playing. When any of the pups did that - I used to just laugh my head off.

I finally give them their own 'play' bowl on thick towels and whenever they went for the water bowl - I moved them to their play bowl. They learn pretty quick.

Our old beagle used to dunk his feet in his water dish to cool 'em off after walking on warm pavement.

Sounds like BabyDog is just starting to figure out she can make stuff happen! You might need to put a big cotton rug or towel under the water dish until this behavior blows over. Don't slip on a puddle!

OK.....I can do that. It really is the cutest thing you ever saw! I will let her play, and teach her which bowl is which!

I had never heard of Schipperkes.....now I know what they are....pretty dogs!

Every lab I ever owned did that and most of the sheps. The worst one, though, was a little pointer I had. That dog loved water. When he drank he would put his how head into the water bucket. (I had several dogs and the water bucket was a 5 gallon flat backed horse bucket) One day he got into the pantry and found a bag of powdered sugar. He tore of one and and crammed his little face in the bag. Then he went and got a drink of water...and then back to the bag...

When I finally saw him, he had come zipping around the corner into the kitchen...a huge happy puppy grin on his face...with about an inch of "frosting" all over his face.

What a mess! LOL!

I had a border collie who used to love mud. Strangest thing. If she found mud she would lie down in it on her side. One spring she found edge of a horse lean to...spring time, snow run off...muck and manure and mess. It was blocked off from the horses (too muddy there first thing in spring) but oh the mud was deep. I was out doing a barn check and a little bit of movement caught my eye. Something bubbled. And shifted. I walked closer....step by step...1/2 curious and 1/2 afraid of what I was going to find.

That's when I saw eyeballs. Two white eyeballs staring up at me from the mud. I screamed.

Then my dog popped up. She had been laying flat in the mud and rolling back and forth...had seemingly disappeared she was so covered with muck. She sure did scare the liver out of me!!!

Mine used to do that. I moved their water bucket to the porch. The mess just drained off and dried. Problem solved!

Our mixed breed pup did the same thing. Now he just lives in the lake. I'm not kidding, he spends more time wet than dry:

I have one that did that. My daughter would make a mud puddle for her so she could splash in the water. Of course, my daughter was the one to bath her too. lol These days our almost two-year-pld still plays in the water and the rain. We did learn during the ice storm that she does not like to play in freezing rain. That just made her mad. I think having the rug there to soak the water is a great idea.

<sigh> Now I want to go home and play with my doggie.

I took in an abandoned mom and four pups quite a few years back, got them dewormed, shampooed, debugged, etc., and had them for about 3 months before finding good homes for them all.

She looked to be a purebred pointer, and the pups were mixed, looked like lab and/or rottie fathers. We already had dogs, so their water bucket was large - big around and low, held 5 gallons or so. It was summertime, and the largest male pup took to laying IN the bucket for portions of each day, and was offended when one of the other dogs came over to get a drink. I had to get a second water bucket, there was no keeping him out. :-D

With my Alaskan Huskies I have to opposite problem trying to get them into water. They don't even like wadding in water. I finally found a way though I bought a kids wadding pool filled it with water and gold fish the puppies started trying to catch the fish and got used to the water.

Yeah, my German Shepherd is a water baby any walk past a body of water and he's got to dive in doesn't matter if it's muddy, smelly swamp water either.

This year I'd like to get him a kiddy pool to cool off in during the heat of summer. It's amusing to watch him put his head under water and blow bubbles.

We have one pug who is absolutely crazy about water, anywhere, and we can't keep him out of it. We have a gold fish pond in the back yard, and he's been in there at least several times a day during decent weather. He seems to use it to cool off, or sometimes just for entertainment. He loves jumping in the water, and then trying to catch the water when it flies. The gold fish don't really like him though!

Our other little dog (a female) jsut will not even get her feet wet. If she does, she sits down and waits for a ride to the door. Nope she's NOT going to walk on wet feet.

It is funny. I had a TB mare that would play in the water tank. She would stick that long head of hers about half way to her eyes in the water and just splash . Not so much fun when you are having to drive 8 miles one way with a tank of water 3 or more times a week because she wanted to play....

Our pup is like that too, but not with water-with leaves. If she sees a pile of leaves or shavings, she HAS to swim in them. She gets the most estastic look on her little face and just wallers in them.
