Well some here know some dont, so I'm posting an update. We took our 11 year old, going on 13, Weimeraner to the vet tonight - we pretty much figured we were going to have to have her put down. Well Silky came back home with us and is on mega doses of antibiotics and pain killers now! So that's a praise as dh wasn't ready to have her put down.

We think she may have been bit by a brown recluse, the skin and flesh is falling away from her shoulder where the site is at, it is severely infected.

So she's not out of the woods yet. So be praying for her and for us me esp. as she is very heavy and I basically have to carry her in and out to go to the bathroom and the like. And also for an increase in my sales so I can pay the vet bill <sigh>

I suffered 7 bites across my middle several years ago. My kidneys got
infected or where shutting down. So i drank borage tea for three weeks.
And im still here , and kicking.

BORAGE
COMFREY

I use comfrey only externally. It is an amazing skin and bone healer.
PS: referance as many DIFFERENT herbals as you can. They vary
sometimes.

Renman that's an excellent idea I'll have to look and see what I have in my bag of herbal tricks! I finally found my herbal I was looking for, all 600+ pages, which does address some of this!

Praise the Lord. I love our Just in Time God. We always know it is answer to prayer when He steps in 'just in time'

Yes He truly does! Here's a picture of Silky - you can sorta see the bite on her left shoulder below her ear. The skin is rotting away  --- eeeeeeeewwwwwww!

Ignore the messy wall her kennel was where she is at now and I haven't had time to clean the walls yet. I had to take it apart to get her out of the kennel yesterday - she weighs 82 pounds and 82 pounds of dead weight is well HEAVY!

Packy, best of luck to you on getting through this ordeal. We lost our 14 year old dachshund last spring. They are family members..........

I am sending a prayer your way. I hate when our "best friend" get sick and old. I just put down my Moe a few months ago, but I have "him" (remains) right here on my desk, so He is always with me all the time!!

Prayers tonight for Silky, for her recovery and that God comfort her. She looks like a little sweetheart.

In looking at the picture, it looks like her side is a little redish and swollen, maybe its just the picture. See the spot on her shoulder where it looks like something sure got started.

Will also pray that God brings you a way to cover the vet bills and her care.

Thank you Suzy today she relapsed into sleeping and rock hard, I've had to shake her awake three times now to get her up to go out to do her chores. She's walking better but just very listless. We may get another antibiotic tomorrow.

Does Ames (ISU) still have that wonderful vetinary medicine school? Its saved two dogs that belong to our neighbors. One bit by a rattler in Madison County on an afternoon visit, and another with an unknown bite of some kind.

Prayers continue, they are like our babies. They sure steal our hearts.

KIM, just a quick note.

Was reading on golden seal and discovered
its is a remedy for scorpian and snake bite.
The book was describing Wild Oregon Grape,
but both carry the same essential ingrediants.

The book recommended tea internal and a
poltice external to draw the poison. Am not
sure if dogs can ingest golden seal ?

I'm not sure if they can or not I've posted to the herbal pet list and am still awaiting a response. I don't have any of those herbs on hand anyway, hope to have some in house on Monday but that may be pushing it.

Until then Silky has a vet appointment at 4:30 today - she's not doing so well. If she comes home it'll be with an antibiotic that costs $55, and I thought people meds were spendy!

Kimberly,

You and Silky are surely on my mind and in my prayers. I love my animals, too, so I know how much this hurts for all of you. I do hope you find something that will work for her. I'll look for your posts with updates.

Yes I have given my dogs goldenseal....it is wonderful and has antibiotic/antiviral props. You don't want to use it for more than 10 days I'd try and eight of a tsp in a Tb of water. Wallys usually have it...although it's not my fav place to get it. Meijers has it as well...usually in caps which you can break apart. good luck

Silky stayed at the vet clinic tonight she's getting IV's and Cipro antibiotic. Her pulse was very low, they weren't able to get a heart sound, and her temp was really low.

I am so sorry sweetie. Lifting you all up in prayer.
I asked God to be with Silky and let her know she is not alone.

I always prayed over my sweet pets when they had to be in a strange place without me. I know it sounds odd but they are His creation too and I know that He honored my concern for them.

The groomer was always impressed with my critters in how calm they always were. I just smiled.

Hi All

We brought her home around noon and I supsect she will go back on Monday for one last visit, if she lives that long - to go over the rainbow bridge.

She can't stand on her own anymore, I've puppy pads under her bum because she has no control anymore. The vet didn't want to leave her alone the rest of the weekend at the vet office and I agree I think this is better. OC is lost, though he'd never admit it, this is his baby he had with his first wife and is the only living connection to her now.

I've been giving her fluids that the doc sent home with us. Eleven is old for a weimeraner most don't make it to ten even.

More later

My prayers are with you and your DH, and Silky.

Oh Sweety, I just saw this......
I'm so sorry, but she is no longer in pain and she is FREE!! FREE of this earthly body of pain and hurt, FREE of having to be hungry or cold or hot.....now she is truely FREE, just as we will be one day. And you WILL be with her again!! I KNOW it!!
Prayers for your comfort, and especially your DH, but Silky no longer needs our prayers, she is running in the fields of heaven!

Oh, my gosh. I just caught up with this thread now. I was wanting to know how things were going and then I found out.

The Lord will take care of you and all of our lovely animals that have passed.

I also just saw this (just found this sub forum) - I am so very sorry for your loss. Weimers are such cool dogs.

I lost a good dog last year and it hurts a lot - they do leave a huge hole. Everywhere I went I was picking up her old toys, and folding up her special blankets so I wouldn't see her absence everywhere so much. But even outside, her paw prints were still all over in the deep snow.
