My beagle who is older was climbing the couple stairs into the house, hurt herself. She started yelping and has been holding up her back paw. She has tried to put weight on it and can't. She is in a lot of pain. We have been giving her baby asprin. Called the vet and they said to give it a day or two. We has a lab who had a similar problem and ended up with a torn ligament and required surgery. We are hoping that it is a pulled muscle or something and she can bounce back.

Has anyone had a similar problem? My stomach is in a knot for my beagle girl. And we don't need expensive vet bills right now. This is going to be a long night. And I have to get up for work early tomorrow.

When my pouch did this a few times going down the steps, I had to bring every thing to him on a "no steps allowed basis" for a week or so till he healed. Was a pain but it was cheaper than taking him to the vet.

Dogs cure quickly if you give them the opportuninty. Help them out if want to avoid the Vet.

Oh, poor baby girl!

Are you sure it's a joint or ligament injury? You might want to check her foot carefully under a good light. Use a magnifying glass if your eyesight is as cruddy as mine is. She might have a sticker, splinter or foxtail embedded in one of the pads or between the toes. She might have a cracked or cut pad. She might have a crushed, cracked or torn-off nail. (I had a beagle rip one of her dew claws clean out when she got tangled in shrubbery--not a fun experience.)

If you've got Rescue Remedy on hand, you might want to give her a little just to relax her and settle her down.

Please let us know how this turns out!! Hope you get some sleep . . .

We have two older dogs. We give the oldest 14yrs. hyaluronic acid pill in their food at 3:30 PM. They know their dinner bell. it is 20mg. each. You can get it at walmart. It helps support the joints. They also have joint doggie snacks at walmart to also give them. If it gets too bad and you can see them hurting I give them Tri-buffered aspirin . Kea is part lab and chow so she weights about 70 ish lbs plus. She can't come up the front steps any more so she knows to go to the back steps. One smart dog. I get the Tri buffered aspirin at walgreens drug store.

Thank you all for the reponses. We are carrying her out to go potty, no stairs. She is trying to put alittle weight on the paw, but is in alot of pain. She woke up at 4 am crying and to eat. I'll post progress later.
