me too, gal. I got my stuff covered last night just in case it moved faster than thought - only got down to 34 this a.m., but supposed to be in the low 20s before dawn tomorrow. We have had horrible steady winds for 2 days here which has played havoc with the covers!

all that should be able to handle a few hours at 25 no problem.

we have all our cold crops in and are expecting high twenties with snow showers tonight and mid twenties tomorrow night. we aint worried, they can handle a couple nights of weather like this..

dogwood winter, happens every year, aint lost a crop yet.

Our winds have REALLY picked up, too...I noticed that looking out the window, I need to go back out to the goat shed and check on the two pregnant Mom's, but I'm sure not looking forward to being out there. I have the woodstove going and the inside nice and cozy.

Dilligaf, have you any experience with this stuff and fruit trees? Our Plum trees bore for the first time last year and are in full bloom now. I suspect that means we'll have no plums, huh? The apples have quite sensibly refused to bloom this early, thank heavens.

Temps will be in the low 20s here tonight. There go my little pears again. I haven't had a pear crop for three or four years now and was so hoping they wouldn't freeze this year!

The trees are loaded and I would have gotten several bushels. Now I'll get what will look a little like raisins.

Oh, well. The blossoms were pretty.

Fruit tree blossoms are definitely a problem, but cool-weather crops like lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, swiss chard, collards, brussel sprouts, spinach have no problem. In fact, I kept collards over the winter. They looked "saggy" after two nights of 17 and 14 degrees but they are just fine now. That's the great thing with these kinds of plants. Plant them early, enjoy them, and then in June, when the weather is hot, plant something else where they were...except no tomatoes there. Tomatoes are not to follow cabbage, etc.

we are from the apple capital of georgia. what they do with the orchards is set out sprinklers and spray water on the buds till they get a layer of ice over them. i guess this protects the buds. not sure how viable that is for you,but i am pretty sure its common practice for fruit orchards. i know they do it with citrus in florida as well.

if its any consolation, our peach and almond trees have already finished flowering ,so i guess we wont have any harvest from them this year.
