I'm so excited! I used to work in a green house that sometimes orders bare root stock in and repots it. (yeah, I spent a chunk of time doing that! ) Today I stopped in and purchased some of their bare root stock...12 raspberries, 40-50 strawberries and some beautiful asperagus! At another store I picked up some potted blueberries and blackberries.
My mom and I have a spot all picked out for our berry patch. It's going to be beautiful! :) :) :)
I'm so happy I just had to share :)

Way to go! I know how excited you are. I have vegetable plants and flowers that need to go out, but I have not got the berries yet. I am planning on raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries to get started with this year. I better get my order in to Henry Field or Gurney.

I'm green with envy seriously~! The rabbits have been eating my strawberries  Does anyone know if they will come back or not? I just planted them two weekends ago.

The rabbits will come back, don't know about the strawberreis though! You might want to consider getting some Remay/floating row cover. It's WONDERFUL protection for the garden and keeps rabbits, deer, etc from eating YOUR veggies and keeps those bugs off the plants also. Pinetree seeds (superseeds.com) has the best prices. It comes about 5' wide and as long as you want - easy to cut to length, and last for years. I use it continually on my raised beds. Gives early frost protection both Spring and fall so it help muchly to extend you growing season. I buy in 100' lengths so I always have it on hand for the future and when I am expanding the garden.

So you don't need to fence when your using the floating row cover? How do you keep the wind from blowing it away?

Have a trade secret id like to share .
First i fence the garden beds with hog wire
fencing, dug in 8-12 inches.
Second, i use a distractor that the wabbits
like. A flake of alfalfa , for instance. I put
where its easy to find. But away from the
garden.
And yes they will come back . The strawberry
roots will.

My garden is fenced in with chicken wire, the 36 in tall stuff but the little buggers found a way in anyway. Glad to hear that they will grow back.

Thanks for the great tips on the fencing. Yes, I surely am going to fence the gardens. We have more deer here than you can shake a stick at, too. Between the rabbits, deer and bluejays if you don't have fencing they leave you absolutely nuthin!! Arrrrrrrrrrgh!!!
A friend of mine says he has good luck putting shaved soap like Irish Spring or Zest in little mesh bags. I am not sure if it will work or not. Another friend said she mixes ground cloves in with the soap...and she swears by it. I'll give it a try. Wish I could fencing in my whole yard but it is just too big. I have to settle for fencing in the garden area. Those darn deer and rabbits sure can do a number on the lillies and other flowers.
And don't get me started on the bears....
LOL!

oh oh oh... I forgot to mention... I got my raised bed built today for the asparagus!! Tomorrow I will be planting!
I have all the bare root raspberries potted up (temporary until I get the raised beds built for our berry patch).
Tomorrow is going to warm and sunny. I can't wait to go play in the dirt!!!

I put in two blackberry bushes last spring and one is starting to produce this year. I bought three more this year and two are sprouting leaves, one isn't. Also got two grape vines. I am still hoping to somehow get a blueberry bush.
