My husband was mowing down some overgrowth yesterday. He stopped because he had to pee, and as he walked forward, 2 ducks flew out of the growth. He really didn't think anything of it. Anyway, he got back on his mower and continued to mow down the over growth.

Today, we decided to taken this section down to a normal level. Now my husband said he saw one duck take off from this area again this morning when it heard the mower coming. So I'm mowing when as I was coming up on my mower. I saw some eggs laying in the grass. I stopped, got off and walked over to them and lo and behld there are 10 eggs. Not a crack in one of them - all are perfect.

We made sure to avoid this section and I even covered the eggs with some of the dried grass clippings. While we were mowing, a duck did pass by quacking overhead.

About 2 hours later, I noticed a duck out in the area, but I had the eggs marked with a tree branch stuck in the ground, and this duck was a good 100' from the eggs. The duck really didn't walk around but rather stayed in one place eyeing the area. I could kick myself that I didn't uncover the eggs, and eventually the duck flew away.

I believe God protected thos eggs....I can't believe my husband's mower didn't break or crush them when he was talking down the weeds! Yet, I'm wondering if this was teh moma that came back, had a look, didn't see them and figured they were toast - never to return again!

It's supposed to get down to the mid 40's tonight and my question is, if moma waits till tomorrow to come back and look again, will the eggs be bad due to the cold? Should I take them in as it gets dark? I don't have an incubator, so how could I keep them warm?

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd leave them alone and stay away from them. Mama will be back, but not till she's sure it's safe.

Thanks Belle, I was kinda figuring the same thing as God made sure those eggs were not hurt.

My hubby almost ran over a nest of turkey eggs with his tractor last year. Luckily, he saw them in time and went around them. Now we're getting overrun with turkeys. (I don't mind one bit!)

I knew she would. God cares for all and now He has put your mind at rest, too.

I was going t osay what Belle said. I found a turkey nes in one of my raised beds, I started to back off, until I noticed, that soem of the eggs were hatched. which tells me she had left the nst. but I back off any way. now I have waited several days, no one has come back, so I wil go ahead and get rid of it.
this was a wild turkey. she was about 20 ft, from my back door, went by her daily, and never saw her.
