My husband was mowing down some overgrowth yesterday. He stopped because he had to pee, and as he walked forward, 2 ducks flew out of the growth. He really didn't think anything of it. Anyway, he got back on his mower and continued to mow down the over growth.
Today, we decided to taken this section down to a normal level. Now my husband said he saw one duck take off from this area again this morning when it heard the mower coming. So I'm mowing when as I was coming up on my mower. I saw some eggs laying in the grass. I stopped, got off and walked over to them and lo and behld there are 10 eggs. Not a crack in one of them - all are perfect.
We made sure to avoid this section and I even covered the eggs with some of the dried grass clippings. While we were mowing, a duck did pass by quacking overhead.
About 2 hours later, I noticed a duck out in the area, but I had the eggs marked with a tree branch stuck in the ground, and this duck was a good 100' from the eggs. The duck really didn't walk around but rather stayed in one place eyeing the area. I could kick myself that I didn't uncover the eggs, and eventually the duck flew away.
I believe God protected thos eggs....I can't believe my husband's mower didn't break or crush them when he was talking down the weeds! Yet, I'm wondering if this was teh moma that came back, had a look, didn't see them and figured they were toast - never to return again!
It's supposed to get down to the mid 40's tonight and my question is, if moma waits till tomorrow to come back and look again, will the eggs be bad due to the cold? Should I take them in as it gets dark? I don't have an incubator, so how could I keep them warm?
Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.
