Mom, what kind of lettuce did you plant? My DH put 3 long pieces of gutter on the fence for herbs. I think lettuce would do good in there but wasn't happy with the last lettuce I planted.
Thanks...sandi

I am trying the bag method with strawberries, first time... bought as a kit, not sure if I did it right because I haven't seen any growth yet and it's been about 3 weeks. Guess I'd better get some miracle gro.
What are other good crops to plant in hanging bags, besides tomatoes?

I bought Eden Garden Seeds harvest in 45 days Gourmet Salad Blend. They are untreated seed grown in the U.S.A. Mine has: Black Seeded Simpson, Green Salad Bowl, Red Salad Bowl, Marvel of Four Seasons and Royal Oakleaft (which came back this year!!!) It looks kind of purple and very pretty. They will not sell on line. They are expensive but I like untreated and bought all I could for my children's gardens. Good luck. AL

Thank you, Thank you, Animal Lover...That's exactly what I wanted. It will work great in the gutter garden.
Brosia, I got the idea of the gutter garden from a thread here on TTOL...it may be in the kitchen

Well maybe we can work a trade, I think we're going to have enough cucumbers to feed a third world country!
OK here is a stupid question for the lettuce people: I have lettuce growing and it looks great- is there any special way I'm supposed to harvest it, and will it keep producing more? I am probably overthinking it... thanks
ETA- sorry for the thread hijack

It depends on the type of lettuce... but most leaf lettuces (and some loose-leaf heads, like Romaine types) can simply be snipped off, leaving about 2" of plant... and they'll grow back and give you another harvest... or several more, depending on variety and conditions.
True head lettuces usually only give one harvest, when the head is nice and firm...
