Yay! Thank you Susie, for serving us well :)
We butchered our hog today and got a lot of great looking healthy homegrown pork! We did all the grinding today, too - and got about 35 pounds each of sausage and regular ground. Froze all the fat to render later. I'd guesstimate we got about 100 pounds of meat, maybe a tad more. I am thrilled! Can't wait to get the next pig! :mrgreen: My only complaint is that I can't special order a pig with more bacon LOL!

Isnt that a great feeling??!! We had 2 butchered a few weeks ago and filled a frezzer and canned a bunch too. It taste great and is just a good feeling knowing it is there.

Actually.... Duroc breed pigs have a longer body than other breeds and DO produce more "bacon" !!

They are a really pretty pig - deep red/auburn coloration and long bodied, fairly lean looking. Other breeds are good for hams and shoulders and lard.
