I posted last week that I had finally gotten some chickens. Then I posted a question as to whether they were roosters or hens. Much support and feedback was given. I took the advice of Summerthyme and began taking a bagel with me, calling them and feeding them. At first, I would pick a small piece off and toss it. They would scramble to get it. It was fun watching them. Then, Saturday, they would come to me while I held the bagel and grab little bites off themselves. Today came the "cheep thrill." After feeding the bagel as usual, I was just sitting and enjoying watching them. I had leaned my outstretched arm onto the roost without realizing I had done that. The smallest of the pullets...Hadassah...walked her little self onto my arm and sat down! We "chatted" for about five minutes before she decided to leave. I left the coop to do some other things. On the next visit, Hadassah didn't waste much time. I sat in the same position and she flew from the floor up to my arm! I am just thrilled with this. Now, for those who may be ready to send the "paddy wagon" after me, I understand your thoughts. BUT, for those who love their animals and enjoy "communicating" with them, you will know how I feel. It hasn't even been a week yet! I notice that chickens seem to do whatever anybody else is doing, so we'll see if the others decided to become friendly, as well. I suppose it won't be long until little Hadassah is in the house! (No, just kidding.)
