I have been sewing for over 40 years now and I have been quilting about as long, so the addition of this part of the forum seems like a true blessing to me. And even though I have been crafting, etc that many years, in a lot of ways I feel like a rank amatuer at times. Especially when it comes to seeing what others do with their quilts. Let me post just one of mine and see if we can get this rolling.

This is one I made in 2005 using the Cumberland line of fabrics for my hubby. He grew up along the banks of the TN and the Cumberland rivers. So it just worked out well with that and the colors matched what I wanted to do with the quilt. I ended up having to tie it since I had my first stroke and had forgotten how to hand quilt. I have since re-taught myself. It's called Autum Leaves or falling leaves or something like that lol.

Very nice She!!! Did you tie the quilt?

I make art quilts you wouldn't want to put what I make on a bed.

Oh that is a neat idea for a quilt! Very nice. :-D That would go over really big down at the Legion. Thanks for posting it!

Yep pw, I had to tie it. I do all my quilting by hand yet but that one I had made right before I had my first stroke. And I wanted to give it to my hubby for his birthday that year. Well it was fast approaching and I couldn't get the hang of holding on to a needle yet to do fine work with. So I had to settle for a big needle and yarn to tie it with just to get it done in time for him to have that birthday. 8)

Last quilt I made was a baby quilt, and I gave it away before taking a picture. Next time I will be sure to make a picture before giving it away!

I have yet to make quilts like yours, those are great!

I have experimented by sewing faux fur and fleece together for blankets. I also did one with fleece and flannel sewn together.

How did the fleece and flannel work out, Midnight? Been thinking about one like that for Li'l Dude.

You ladies are amazing and so talented. I love to can and cook but can not sew to save my life. My 15year old daughter is teaching herself how to sew and I am so impressed and proud of the small lap patch quilt she made.

Thank you for sharing your pictures

Sorry I'm not a lady. I used to fix sewing machines at a garment factory, and I learned to sew after that

Thanks everyone. I'm kinda shy when it comes to compliments lol.
Dan, that is neat that you quilt! My father did too. He was a tough old Navy guy. I picked up some neat ideas from him too. You fixed sewing machines? Maybe I need to pick your brain about my Husqvarna lol...

She, do you have a viking, too????? Mine is from the early 90's and I got to thinking about all the stuff it has sewn.....18th century garb to wear and sell, mending, curtains, diapers, etc. It needs to be taken in for it's 200,000 mile check up and cleaning, but not just anyone can do them. And you HAVE to use Gutterman thread...sigh.....but doggone, that machine has been thru alot with me.

Yep I sure do. Got mine in the late 80's. I have sewn so much with that machine. I have others I can use, but that is my favorite. It needs a tune up bad. It's never had one lol.

I dont quilt very much because I dont have the patience but I sew and I weave. I have a Union weaving loom that I bought at an auction that came with the original book and I taught myself to weave I love doing that. I crochet I also like crafts and making things for the grandkids. My singer sewing machine is over 30 years old and still going. I have a serger and a newer sewing machine but dont like it nearly as well as the old one. Mrs.Silvertop

You must have treated it well, if it's not had a tune up yet!!! It's kinda hard to find a shop that works on them, too. Do you have one near you?

Mine has been in the shop at least twice, because I didn't follow the "Only use Gutterman thread" rule, LOL! But the last time it was in it was all full of fuzzies under the bobbin, and they made it in such a way that the layman isn't able to clean it themselves. I suspect it's all full of lint. now--with all the flannel and fleece I've been sewing.

I do not quilt and greatly admire those who do.

After my mother passed I found this quilt, face completed, backing and batting in a bag. I took it to a quilt shop up the mtn to ask about it. The age is mid to late 20's. Mom probably made it as a young teen but never put it together. The batting is cheese cloth, layer after layer almost 1/4" thick! It was very common to use cheese cloth as it was very cheap and when layered very warn and light weight.

One of these days I'll put it together and add it to the ones I have that my grandmother made. They have never been used to sleep under, mostly I remember them being used as bed toppers. I have six beautiful quilts all made in the 20's and 30's in perfect condition that I'll one day pass along to the grandchildren.

Here are a couple of my favorites. I love the jewel box pattern. Made the yellow one for my mother in law, and the blue for a family friend. The blue one isn't really dingy, just a victim of bad lighting :-)

Wow, very pretty! I am impressed with those too.

How did the fleece and flannel work out, Midnight? Been thinking about one like that for Li'l Dude.

It worked out great. I just sewed along the lines (plaid pattern) on the flannel, sewed the outer edges, trimmed, the sewed on that binding stuff (like quilt binding or whatever it's called). So one side is flannel, the other is fleece with no filler in between. I did the same thing with faux fur and fleece on my kids blankets.

I'm self taught and just make whatever comes to mind.

The pictures of everybody's work are just wonderful!

I am wondering how you all make your pictures small enough to put on the forum.

The quilts are beautiful. I made a couple many years ago - just simple patterns.

I have an old Kenmore sewing machine - bought in 1974. Had the cord and foot pedal replaced once but it's still going strong. Don't use it much now though. Until the economy tanked it was cheaper to buy clothes than to make them.

I'm interested in a treadle machine - my Nana used to have one and we loved playing with it but I never sewed anything on it. Does anyone know where to purchase these?

That quilt looks like it was made with old ties. Was it?

No, the lady at the quilt store told me it was feed sacks. She wanted to buy it, but it stays in the family.

Let's see if this will work. This is a picture of a lap quilt I finished this summer. As you can tell, I'm not that good of a quilter.

Oh My how wonderful to see all the love that goes into each one of these quilts. How in the world could anyone ever sell one!! I have six bed size ones that I use as coverlets over the beds for beauty. My DD makes gorgeous quilts and uses all of them. Her MIL who is now unwell does exquisite hand made quilts too and my DD has several of hers. A TOL forum member sent me a lovely rose quilt hanging that I put up in my dining room and I love it. I haven't seen her post for a long time and I miss seeing her. I used to sew a lot of clothes for my children but never have made a quilt. I don't have that kind of talent and cannot see well enough now. I do beading and claying by hand and I love both of those crafts. I admire all of your love and all of your skill in these beautiful quilts. Please, Momo don't be shy, show us what you have made. I love to see them. Love all around with a hug from an old one. AL
