Decorative, watercolor, oil? I'm self taught and paint for fun and teach basic tole and one stroke from time to time. Used to paint to sell decorative items and now just paint for fun and friends. Had not painted for a couple of years and now getting back into it, amazing what you lose! Just started painting on canvas, what fun, my friends are going to be sick of me again soon. Will post what I am working on when I get them finished. Here is a link for some of what I have done over the years from the beginning. http://www.picturetrail.com/deebird

Oh my goodness Dee74, you do beautiful work! And I have just looked at the first few.
I do decorative painting...but nothing as good as you do.
If I can figure out how to post photos with out disclosing personal information on the 'properties' within my computer, I will post some. I am not computer learned. :)
I am glad to know another painter!

I am still looking at your paintings. I could die! They are just beautiful.
Do I see Donna Dewberry in some of the paintings?

Dee74, your art work is beautiful!
I used to paint, in oils. My dad was an artist and I did my first oil painting when I was 13. I majored in art in high school. Then I married a soldier and every time we moved the Army refused to ship my oil paints. Over the years I just stopped painting. Now I've got MCS and can't handle being around the paints or the cleaners needed for them. I've got water colors, just haven't sat down and worked on them. I think it's time to pull them out and start.

Yes, you do see a lot of Donna in there, she is who brought me to painting. Taught myself from her tapes then went on to OSCI then started taking a few workshops with various artists to learn other styles and techniques. Northlight book club when it was in business had great tapes and DVD's. So most of what i have done is self taught from tapes etc and LOTS of painting it over and over and over :-D. I'm still in awe of many great artists out there, the more you know the less you know in this type of endevor, one never stops learning. Practice, practice and then practice some more. Thank you for the compliments. Nice to meet some other painters too.

Garden Gal, have you looked at Genesis paints? Oil type paints with no solvents etc. I have heard great things about them. I never worked in oils as I can't handle the fumes either. I love watercolor but I struggle with it big time. As a favor to a painting buddy took a workshop with Terry Madden and was hooked. Just what I needed more brushes and new paints etc. After that we did 2 more with Terry and one with Tom Lynch and Tom just blew me away I learned so much from him but still it just beats me up  It would help if I could draw but cannot draw a stick man, so at Toms workshop i just listened took a ton of notes and pics now that I am starting to have a little time for myself I will have to give it another whirl. If you are not familiar with Tom Lynch's work go check his website, you can't believe it's water color.
Dee, you have some beautiful things. Love how you've painted things. suzy

Never heard of the Genesis paints but I am using the Winsor and Newton Artisan H2O Oils and LOVE them, it's been a long time since I've used oils due to the odor and they are definately low VOC! Very nice work, I paint but our work is about 180 degrees from each others and that's what makes the world go round

Wow! I looked at Tom Lynch's site and his paintings are beautiful. They don't even look like the typical water color.
As far as oil paints, I guess I've been out of that type of painting for so long that I didn't know they've improved on the odor. The problem I see though is that they would still have to be cleaned up the same way. I did try acrylics years ago. They have the thickness of oils going onto the canvas, but dry much quicker. So I have to change my painting techniques. The plus side is they clean up with soap and water. I may try going back to those.

gardengal Gardengal, Isn't Tom's work amazing! To spend a week with him was heaven, I learned so much. If you did not know his work is watercolor you would think it is oil. But the Genesis paints are like the ones packyderm was talking about, water based and water clean up but act and have the open time of oils. I'm all acrylics but use mediums to give me the open time to do what I need to do. Genesis was the first line of it's kind I'm sure there are more now.
Pachyderms wife, is your work mostly in the fine art arena? Portraits? I do love the glow of oils that is tough to get with other mediums. But at this point in my hobby I refuse to buy another line of paints (again ) Please post some of your work would love to see it.
That is what I so love about crafting, painting sewing etc, do what you like and admire what others are doing. Just do what brings you pleasure, after all it is supposed to be fun.

Very nice Dee. Are you the left handed painter in those pics?
I have done a few landscapes in oil and enjoy it. I took a ton of pics on vacation in the UP of Michigan......a lot of sunsets over the waters. Going to be sitting down this winter when things are slow and dabble again.
Post more when you can Dee. Always enjoy others work!
BTW for those that are bothered by clean up with turpentine, there is an odorless turp that is truly odorless!

Nope you don't clean them the same way I use plain hot water and lemon joy to clean my brushes! I love these paints.
