Not reading the original article, it sounds like the Company is in health care or insurance, and has ready access to stats showing how much time is lost each year to sick days from influenza. Also, if the company is a hospital/clinic system, the vaccination is not only to ensure the health of the employee, but the health of the patients who come in contact with the employee. Makes perfect sense to me.
All I know is that I always get my flu shot and haven't used a company sick day in years, because I don't get sick. Happy employer, and lower insurance premiums.
