Discovered that www.mredepot.com now sells vacuum-sealed brown rice in #10 cans!

Ordered some to see if this solves the rancidity problem.

Thanks for posting the MREdepot site. That's the cheapest I've seen for #10 cans of anything!

my understanding is that the rancidity is because of the oil in the germ
that goes bad with time. Nothing, including removing the air, will help that. at least that is my understanding. Ask momof23goats...she's one of the profs here.

Nope. The website said the rice will remain good as long as the can seal isn't broken. IIRC, the cans are nitrogen-flushed, and include an oxygen absorber, which should retard oxidation of the oils in the rice.

I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered from www.mredepot.com, but will report to y'all when I start opening the cans.

Right now, I store vacuum-packed jars of brown rice in the freezer; sure would be nice to reclaim that freezer space!

    Made ketchup. Made some money.
But what weapons can you use to dispossess someone who will not accept anything except Holy Scripture interpreted according to his own rules?...Where Lutheranism reigns, learning dies. They seek only two things: good pay and a wife. The gospel offers them the rest — that is, the power of living as they please.

I understand now how Arius and Tertullian and Wickliff were driven into schism by malicious clergy and wicked monks.

Furthered my professional education (new skill makes me more valuable and less likely to get cut as cuts begin).

Ran 3 miles before going to work. Exercise = #1 prep thing you can do.
