We drove 700 miles round trip and picked up a weanling filly miniature horse- also "free". It's a multipurpose prep- grandchildren fun if the world holds together. Or inexpensive light draft for pulling a small cultivator or the wagon when harvesting in the garden. And just plain fun now to train and love...

Limner... my nearest Amish neighbors have a mini gelding which they use in the garden, to pull a perfect miniature flat hay rack (cost the guy a fortune to build it- it has "authentic" steel wheels, and is solid oak) for hauling garden stuff, etc. He also is ridden by all the kids up to the age of 8 or so.

This one is a "lease" deal from Willow at TB2k... she has a small herd of top show quality minis, not the "stunted dwarfed" type too often advertised. This one won't be extremely tiny... probably 34-36" when she's done growing. Perfect straight legs, lovely pony head, great disposition. I'm fortunate I have a couple of good Amish horse trainers very local to me who can train her when she's ready- for driving and riding.

The expensive part is going to be getting harness and a cart, although we have a heavy duty garden wagon which I'm sure we can put shafts on, and I already have a pony cultivator.

    SummerThyme, that is so awesome!

Today I ordered 50 lbs of rice flour and two cases of gluten-free cornbread mix. It's cheaper for me to order online and pay $50 shipping than to buy all that at Whole Foods. I also nagged my restauranteur friend for the buckets he's supposed to collect for me. I need more buckets. Always more buckets. LOL!

I don't have 10 children, but I did see 10 bears on vacation once. Thought it'd be a cool screen name.

not alot of money, trying to do the free stuff.

Moved the freezer to the garage, hubby is going to nail in some shelves in the laundry room (where the freezer was) for laundry and my canning jars (all these canning jars gotta go SOMEWHERE! LOL)

Going to try to finish some painting in the house, organize the foodpreps and laundry room.

Yesterday I bought an electric slicer at a 2nd hand shop. It's an older Rival Electr-o-matic, all chrome, real metal, American made and works great! Today I sliced up small roast and have it marinating in jerkey cure. Tomorrow I'll put it in the dehydrator.

    Packaged up some dehydrated apples.

And... I have the smell of Hoppe's all over me!

Went to LEHMAN'S in Kidron, Ohio today. Bought a hand cranked "Lehman's Best" grain mill, 24 dozen canning lids - a deal at $42.00 for 288 of them! ... a couple books, and a few other items.

Hung around Amish country for a while, had a nice day while prepping!
