Granny’s Chow-Chow Recipe
Another old family recipe by general request...
Granny’s Chow-Chow Recipe
1 peck green tomatoes
8 large onions
10 large bell peppers
6 hot peppers
3 tbsp salt
1 quart vinegar
1 ľ cups sugar
1 tbsp. Cinnamon
1tbsp all spice
Ľ tsp. Cloves
3 tbsp dry mustard
2 or 3 bay leaves
Chop tomatoes, onion, and peppers together and sprinkle with the salt. Let stand overnight. Drain. Add the hot pepper that has been chopped, the vinegar and the spices (tie the spices in a cheese cloth bag) and sugar. Allow to boil slowly until the vegetables are tender (about 15 minutes). Pack tightly into sterilized jars and seal at once.
