Default Lawry's Seasoned Salt Clone Recipe

    Lawry's® Seasoned Salt

This seven-ingredient clone of Lawry's Seasoned Salt can be
made in a small bowl, but is best used when poured into an
old spice bottle that you've cleaned out and saved. You've
saved one of those somewhere, right?

    2 tablespoons salt
    2 teaspoons sugar
    1/2 teaspoon paprika
    1/4 teaspoon turmeric
    1/4 teaspoon onion powder
    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/4 teaspoon cornstarch

    1. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
    2. Pour blend into an empty spice bottle with shaker top to store.
    Makes 1/4 cup.

I multiply the recipe by 8 and make it in a quart mason jar; put the lid on and shake and roll it until well blended.

Thank you, thank you. Does the corn starch prevent caking perhaps? Never mind, saw the answer on the other thread!

How, may I ask did you get those ingredients into an Old Spice bottle...and doesn't the smell of Old Spice get into the seasoning?

I wonder if it is more cost effective to simply buy the original rather than make your own????
    • Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything through prayer with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God”
The Apostle Paul told us to not worry about anything.
What should we do instead of worrying?
    1. Pray for what you need as well as for what you want.
    2. Tell God that you are thankful for what he has already given you.
    3. Request from God everything you need for the day, every day.

Not a chance!! Of course, I buy turmeric, paprika (actually, I grow my own paprika peppers and grind them after drying), onion and garlic powder (er... I usually dry my own of those, too) in pound quantities, either from Penzeys Spice or www.Atlanticspice.com.

But the end result is it costs me literally pennies PER POUND to make.

And I use it in place of salt in almost any savory recipe... if a stew calls for "1 tsp salt", I'll use 1 1/4 tsp of the clone recipe. It adds just a little extra "zing" and color.

And LOL at you guys with the Old Spice bottles. Sorry... never thought of that!

Of course, you can doctor this up any way you want, too... add some ground parsley leaves, or a bit of dill weed, or a bit of hot red pepper... the possibilities are endless.

Thank you Summer. This is great. I am almost out of my Lawry's. And yes, I have lots of washed out and ready to use OLD spice bottles.
