I was just informed that if I continue to refuse the flu shot per hospital regulations I will have to wear a mask if I'm within 6 ft of a pt. The last time I had the flu shot I was sick for two weeks. I'm beyond pissed right night now. I have till Dec. 1st to comply.

    Stressful.......

I'm considering myself very fortunate right now that I haven't had my manager come up to me and tell me to wear my mask either. I'm VERY quick to put one on if at all indicated. In fact, most of my colleagues think that I'm overkill on it.

It's good to have a job, but at what 'cost' do we keep it? I dunno.....

I have been very lucky so far at both places, keeping in prayer that they don;t say anything!
"Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything."

I was allowed to simply sign a declination form. But the IC nurse did ask me didn't I usually get them. Which I always have in the past.
I was surprised that the consent/decline form did not mention anything about having to wear a mask.
I know of only one other person in my department that declined. In fact I was the encouragement she needed to do so. We will see if either of us get sick, and how it compares to the rest of the department.

For us it is a network wide policy. I asked how they were going to explain why we were wearing a mask and was told I would have to explain to the pt that I had refused the shot. I said that violates my H.I.P.P.A rights and they had no answer for it. Now I work at an open mri facility and most of my pts are already nervous when they come in and all of us wearing masks would just unnerve them more., for this reason I have decided to get the shot. I need this job right now and I dont want a reason to be singled out. I feel like a coward by caving in to be honest. this was a tough decision and will have to revisit it again next year.

I get the flu shot every year for the last 8 or 10 years.
Prior to that I did get influenza that year and it had me in bed for days, weak as a puppy.
I've had no adverse effects from the vaccine and if it did that to me (pretty big guy in his late 30's) I assume it could kill one of my elderly pt.s

    Just my 2 cents

About 4 years ago I was working part time in a 450 bed hospital and they asked if I would be interested in getting some extra hours in by administering flu shots to the employees. I gave the shots for about a 4 month period of that year.

Just my 2 cents here but...
the one thing I did notice was that there were quite a few employees who later came up to me and told me that they had experienced several different types of symptoms after getting the shot ranging from nausea, fever, aches and pains to full out having to call off work from anywhere to a few days to a couple of weeks.

I was aware that there may be some people who experienced 'mild' symptoms after receiving the vaccine but was definately surprised at how many had come to me. I wondered how many more there were that I didn't hear about? Yes, I did report this information.

I was also telling myself that these people may have been previously exposed and were going to come down with symptoms anyway.

I did the same thing the next year at the same hospital and low and behold had many employees complaining of the same mild to moderate adverse reactions.

It just didn't sit right with me and I have never given another flu shot since.

I honestly do not know what to believe about flu shots and their possible short/long term effects on people. This was just my observation.
