LOL....so true, Firebear! I just turned 52 and am amazed that 60
no longer seems so old, nor so far away! Seems like we were
just 25-30, doesn't it? In my heart, I often still feel like a little girl.
That will come in handy when I get quite a bit older, as I won't be
going back through my second childhood, since I never got completely
    through it.

Congrats on your 33 years! =)

And interestingly, the younger generation constantly admonishes me that my people skills lack.

So I simply have to wonder... who lacks what people skills? Who is the one who had the people skills and commitment to work at it hard enought to remain married to the same woman for 40 years and then too, still be in lovewith the same furver as the day we got married? A real relationship requires far more people skills than a one-night stand, a six-month stand or simply living with someone without any commitment at all!

Congrats to you and your mate for making and keeping a commitment and carrying the tourch for us dying Dinosaurs!!!

Thank you, Carl! And Congrats on your upcoming 40 years! That is
definitely an accomplishment that few people could comprehend
nowadays. Will continue to carry the torch for our fellow Dinosaurs.....
    gotta love those Dinosaurs!

Our middle Daughter just told us that we are the only couple out of
all of her friends parents, etc., that has stayed in their first marriage.
All of the others have been married and remarried at least one time,
with step children. It's almost unheard of to stay married to the
    same person forever, these days.

I believe couples who only marry once, and stay together, raise kids that only marry once and stay together. My parents were always only just married the one time, and same thing for dh. Dh and I are both middle kids of five. Out of the 10 children in the two families, only one ever divorced. I think that says a lot for the carrying power of a strong marriage. It sets an example for the children in the family.....that staying married can be done, and that it's well worth it.

I think it takes waiting for the person God has for you, and then -- when times get tough, as they surely will -- remembering your covenant, with your spouse and with God. As quoted above, scripture says, "A cord of three strands is not easily broken." Jesus is the third strand.
IF you are willing & obedient , you shall eat the good of the land: But if you refuse & rebel, You shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Isaiah 1:19, 20
