    Default Garage Door Opener

Not quite sure where to post this, but here goes.

Got home from work today and my DW informs me that when she got up to go to the gym this am, before dawn, that both of our garage doors were open.
I ran a quick inventory and nothing seemed to be missing, just a bit unnerving though. We live outside a medium size town about 10 miles from the town center. Quasi rural as folks have horses, goats, chickens etc. More suburban to many here I would surmise.

Not sure if someone was casing the neighborhood with electric openers, but the doors are on separate codes. Side door was locked.

I would welcome any useful input.

Default there are a couple of diff kinds.....

Generally speaking , the older units ( w/o rolling codes) are
    easily hacked by crooks.

They just drive by with their finger on the button , and watch
which doors pop . Then go make their plans.

The remedy is to close your doors for the night , and UNPLUG
    door lift mech.

The newer door mechs with rolling code keys are a lot harder
to hack . Similar to the remote locks for the newer cars.

Stray RF in that freq. band might disable the electronics , but
never enable it , unless the proper code was sent .

    ie, it was intentional .

    Hope this helps !

that is exactely what they are doing and now they have targeted your home, possibably for Home Invasion. I would disconect the power to your garage door and install a motion camera and motion lighting around your home asap

Do you have a Homelink type universal transmitter in any vehicle? Have you left any openers someplace in which someone could have used it to train a universal transmitter?

Is your garage attached to your house?

They also have a short video on the matter:

Look at the rails your doors ride. If there are holes, you can ziptie or otherwise keep the doors from being able to open.

Unplug the whatchamacallit, as someone else said, and you might ought to notify your police department. If you're in the right kind of area, they'll increase presence in your area.

    Default Thanks everyone

The garage is not attached to the home, and I already have motion detector lights all around the house, but no cameras.
The only remotes were in the locked vehicles inside the locked garage!
I had read about being able to slip a hanger over the door to pull the emergency release prior and have already removed the handles. Thinking about calling the garage door company in the am. Find out if I have the newer/older system and what can be done to make the doors more secure.
As we are in hurricane country, the doors themselves do have dead bolts that go through the rails. I locked them for tonight. And called the sherriff to ask for some extra drive bys

BTW the plugs are in the ceiling above the cars!!

    Thanks again,

    ODAAT

It may not be anything horrible.

Got a radio station nearby? Our town went through a spell of mystery garage door openings and closings. Turned out it was our little radio station's fault.

That was many moons ago. Not sure if it could still happen.
