fwiw THIS behaviour has been pretty common for the past 6000 years. I know in my own family parents abandoning their children, think dark ages europe here, was quite common. It doesn't make it right but it did happen. I have other family members that came to the US as indentured servants as young as 10 years of age and this was during the late 1800's. Again it doesn't make it right BUT it does happen.
