Default Diarrhea really bad, flu bug probably, how to stop it

So much flu going around, but most have the other part where you throw up and also diarrhea, I only have the diarrhea. I ate cottage cheese last night, dry toast this morning, Its been three days now. How do you stop it? I wish I had some coke syrup on hand, that is what they used in the old old days for stomach flu.

If you've had diarrhea for three days, you're likely dehydrated and need to increase your fluid intake -- not straight water, but something with electrolytes and other good stuff. As for treatment, Immodium A-D has always worked for us.
Collapse now and avoid the rush!

A nurse told me a little secret at the hospital in Dallas years ago. My son was one that could not stop vomiting when he got a stomach flu and had to be hospitalized at 2 years of age for the stomach flu.

The nurse said: " make a batch of strong tea and let it cool to room temperature, do not water it down and you can add a bit of sweetener. Give 1 Tablespoon of the tea mixture every minute till the vomiting stops". I have always seen it stop the nausea and vomiting with the first spoonful. My son is now 42 years old and still uses this today.

Also this might help. I had a bulldog that came down with parvo and was spewing vomit and diarrhea. I called a natural vet in Oregon at that time and he said do this: dig up some raspberry or blackberry roots. Wash them off and cut them into rounds and steep them to make a strong tea. Use an eyedropper and get as much as possible down the dog, it will stop the vomiting. Give him a little enema with the same mixture and it will stop the diarrhea.........it did immediately stop all symptoms and the dog recovered in less than 24 hours.

This should also work for humans.

If nothing else works you may have to resort to a prescription for the suppositories that will stop diarrhea. Good luck.

Yes, on the Immodium A-D... you can get it at WalMart or any drug store- probably even small packages at convenience stores or truck stops.

Follow the directions on the box- if you've got a bad case, you'll feel like you're taking half the box of pills in the first 12 hours... but it should work.

If you don't get any relief within 24 hours of following the directions, call your doctor! Dehydration isn't a good thing for anyone, but for the very young and the.. um... highly experienced!! (older!) folks, it can be deadly. Even fairly mild dehydration can lead to heart arrhythmia- DON'T fool around with this!

Eating a whole apple can help- there is pectin in the peel, and that's the "pectate" part in the commercial "Kao-Pectate" anti-diarrheal. Don't overdo the apples, though! Or any fruit... Sip gatorade, boullion, or diluted fruit juice frequently.

    Hope you feel better soon!

Some of the old timers around here would swear by blackberry brandy as a tonic for diarrhea and kept it on hand for this purpose. Unfortunately, most that is commercially made now uses artificial flavoring.

Oh, good! Take the immodium as needed until you get past this whole bug. You're right, it IS hard on you at your age (it's not all that good for someone in their prime!). You'll feel worn out for a few days until you get your electrolytes and fluids back in balance.

Make sure you stock back up on the immodium if you are running low- it's one of those OTC meds you REALLY don't want to have to run to the store for if you need it NOW! LOL!
