Default Cut in Colorado River Flow Ordered

The West is drying up --
For the first time in history, the U.S. government has ordered that flow of Colorado River water from the 50-year-old Glen Canyon Dam be slashed, due to a water crisis brought about by the region's historic 14-year drought. On Friday, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation--a division of the Department of Interior that manages water and electric power in the West--announced that it would cut water released from Lake Powell's Glen Canyon Dam by 750,000 acre-feet in 2014.

It's looking like the Colorado River is now officially over-allocated.

Anybody know if CA is using it's full allocation yet?

Water levels in Lake Mead are dropping down to the point that it won't be too long until they won't be able to generate electricity.

    Dang!

I can't find my copy of Cadillac Desert.

I remember reading that (in the lower Colorado River) California has first-dibs on it's 4.4 million acre/feet, Mexico has its share then the rest is divided between AZ and NV.

Time to invest more time and energy in desalinization.
The water we use from the ocean will help to counter act the rising sea levels caused by global warming-------------

No doubt about it, and it's coming sooner than most people would imagine. Wars have been waged throughout history over natural resources, and water is the basic resource needed for life.

Sitting here in the Great Lakes area, we're keeping a guarded eye on our water as the drought developments take place out west.

Really? Is that why its being bottled and shipped to China
In war, boots; in flight, a place in a boat or a seat on a lorry may be the most vital thing in the world, more desirable than untold millions. In hyperinflation, a kilo of potatoes was worth, to some, more than the family silver; a side of pork more than the grand piano. A prostitute in the family was better than an infant corpse; theft was preferable to starvation; warmth was finer than honour, clothing more essential than democracy, food more needed than freedom.
