We are remodeling a house we will be moving into in a few weeks. It has a block chimney with a round clay liner. It is very rough in the inside and the local place that does sweeping told us we should just put a new pipe alongside it. They want over $3,000.00 to do the job so I was looking at other alternatives.
I just bought an ad-on wood furnace that will be in the basement.
Putting in a liner seems the most simple and cost effective, but I have heard if the creosote in the existing chimney is not cleaned out it can still cause a chimney fire. If the liner is insulated before it is put in, it seems that should prevent that?
