We still have a bit of a backlog of defensive gun uses to document over the last month or so, but this will probably be the last one we publish in 2013.
According to the Atlanta Journal of Constitution, an East Point, GA homeowner fatally shot a suspected burglar who used a shovel to break into the home around 9:30am this morning.
The homeowner heard noises coming from the rear of his house, armed himself with a gun, and went to investigate.
That’s when the homeowner was confronted by the suspect who had used a shovel to break the glass on his rear door and enter the home.
The homeowner opened fire and struck the suspect at least once.
The suspect was able to flee the home, but collapsed in the front yard. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police say they will continue to investigate the incident, but as of right now it appears to be a clear cut case of self defense.
According to the AJC,
A woman, who identified herself as the homeowner’s sister in-law, said he was upset by the shooting.
“He’s very shaken,” she said. The homeowner did not want to be identified.
Neither the homeowner or the suspect have been identified.
