Strictly my opinion: Putin may be trying to box in US naval assets in the Black Sea to minimize outside opposition to his ground forces in Ukraine.

Taking it one step further, a major sea battle could be in the cards.
On a historical note, the last Crimean War started with a naval battle between the Turks and Russians in the Black Sea.

When was the last time we were in a two sided naval engagement? That may be one short engagement.

I would explain things to you but....I'm all out of crayons and puppets.

Ukrainian officers and soldiers loyal to their oaths will not take criminal orders from the coup-imposed government in Kiev, said the ousted President Viktor Yanukovich.

He added that as a legitimate head of state he also remains commander-in-chief of Ukraine.

“I am still alive and I am still the legitimate president,” Yanukovich said on Tuesday in a statement to the media in Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.

Unless our governor leads the charge, no dice.

A "coup-imposed government" will not be legitimate. We have to wait for impeachment first. Then, the coup will be legit. Perhaps this is why congress won't impeach.

Guadalcanal, 1942. Later, Leyte Gulf - The Death Ride of Taffy 3 in 1944.

December 26, 1943, German Scharnhorst and five destroyers versus Royal Navy cruisers Norfolk and Jamaica and battleship Duke of York.

Soviet missiles would dispatch the VSTOL Whitney and CVN Bush in short order. The Taylor and Ramage have little to offer and the Truxton is a toss-up to facing the Moskva alone.
