    From zero hedge:

Nigerian Doctor Who Treated American Ebola Casualty, Contracts Virus; Troops Deployed In Liberia
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/04/2014 - 11:51
The Lagos doctor who treated American Patrick Sawyer (who died from Ebola in late July) has been confirmed as infected by the deadly virus by Nigerian authorities. This is Nigeria's second confirmed case of Ebola but what is most concerning is the fact that the doctor's infection suggests contagion is less well-contained that authorities have claimed - especially in light of the fact that they did not quarantine Sawyer's fellow passengers. Nigeria is now the fourth nation to report Ebola cases, as Sierra Leone and Liberia are deploying hundreds of troops under an emergency plan to "contain" the worst outbreak of Ebola virus in history.

i read somewhere that this dr was extremely upset about being taken into quarantine, insisting he be released, called some gov contacts to try to get the hospital to release him and the hospital refused. he was on his way to the US for this upcoming conference i think. really got mad, kicked and screamed fought against the hospital staff an even pissed in them.

then the symptoms showed up, got sick and died. now others infected because of him. can you imagine what would have happened if he was allowed to continue on to the US? all because he was a doctor and 'knew better' than others who confined him?

Jazzy, I think you're confusing the dr with the patient. The patient was the one who threw a fit (even urinating on the nurses) and called his higher ups to get a release. Was a member of the Liberian Finance Committee, who said they "had to have him". He was released and died at the airport. He lived with his wife in the US and WOULD have been returning to her after the meeting.

Thanks, HW, I think this will be very useful.

FREETOWN, Sierra Leone — The gravedigger hacked at the cemetery’s dense undergrowth, clearing space for the day’s Ebola victims. A burial team, in protective suits torn with gaping holes, arrived with fresh bodies.

The backs of the battered secondhand vans carrying the dead were closed with twisted, rusting wire. Bodies were dumped in new graves, and a worker in a short-sleeve shirt carried away the stretcher, wearing only plastic bags over his hands as protection. The outlook for the day at King Tom Cemetery was busy.

“We will need much more space,” said James C. O. Hamilton, the chief gravedigger, as a colleague cleared the bush with his machete.

The Ebola epidemic is spreading rapidly in Sierra Leone’s densely packed capital — and it may already be far worse than the authorities acknowledge.

Much more at link. If the story at the link is true, Ebola is going to explode beyond any control IMHO. Pigs, stormwater run off, slums, plastic bags in place of gloves. This thing is a clusterf....

FDA approves use of experimental Ebola drug

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Monday approved the use of an experimental drug that has been hailed as one of the pharmaceutical industry's best chances at fighting the Ebola virus.
Chimerix, a North Carolina-based biopharmaceutical company, announced Monday that it has received approval to administer an antiviral drug called brincidofovir that has successfully treated Ebola in lab tests.
The drug has also been tested by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, though it is not expected to win approval for wide public use until late 2016.

Ebola Outbreak: India Monitoring Possible New Ebola Victim From Japan

A Japanese tourist visiting India is reportedly suspected to have contracted the Ebola virus that is wreaking havoc across West Africa and causing scares from Dallas to France. Kawakubo Yuko, 27, was visiting Imphal, the capital of the Indian state of Manipur, after touring five other countries and arriving from Myanmar, The Hindu, an English-language daily Indian newspaper, reported Monday.

Yuko was planning to tour Manipur, but her trip was cut short when she began to exhibit symptoms of a potential Ebola infection. After tests for more common illnesses came up negative at Imphal’s hospital, doctors sent blood samples to India’s National Institute of Virology to be tested for Ebola, The Hindu reported.
