    Arrow Scottish independence

On Sept. 18, Scotland will vote on whether or not to become independent of England. I have been following this with interest because on my father's side my family is nearly all Scottish. Kicked off their land in the 1700s by the Brits. The link below has several stories on the topic of Scots independence. This could be really interesting.

A key question is whether Scotland will create its own currency, or continue with the pound. If it does the latter, it faces the same problem as southern Europe, tied to the Euro but without the productivity of its neighbors. As a friend said, Scotland could become Spain without the sunshine.

Go for it, Scots! I'd like to see similar referendums here.

This could really be the story of the year, good catch grower. It does not have all the BS fear and loathing of the usual fare, but it could have a huge economic impact and the historical narrative is unparallelled. As a distant victim of the clearances, what is your position?

This is the very nub of it. When Quebec tried to do the same thing in Canada it was the issue of currency that killed it in the end. There too the polls were leaning towards independence, but when they got to the ballot itself enough people couldn't pull the economic suicide trigger to make it pass. On the basis of the Quebec experience I'm guessing this will be a very narrow defeat for the proposition in the same way.

My pragmatic side says this will likely be the outcome. But the little streak in me of William Wallace says, "FREE-DOM!!"

This has been big news on twiter for quite some time. It is interesting to discuss the veiws of the National Socialist, Socialist and the British right, all having differing viewpoints. Many here in the states are for Scottish Independence, but on the other hand those same types seem to be against it over there. The right and the National Socialists tend to view it as weakening Great Britan and empowering the E.U.. Once the cat is out of the bag so to say, the British isles could be flying a great many different flags.
Hwæt! Wé Gárdena in géardagum þéodcyninga þrym gefrúnon· hú ðá æþelingas ellen fremedon. - Listen! We of the Spear-Danes in the days of yore, of those clan-kings heard of their glory. How the worthy princes performed courageous deeds.

I would explain things to you but....I'm all out of crayons and puppets.

The Quebec vote lost by .5% - it was that close. Could be the same, but I hear ya. Lots of history and injustice there to overcome, it's a tough call.

Just for some perspective, here is what defeat looks like when you come so very, very close...
