Just as reports surfaced that she has hired Hollywood's most famous crisis management team to help her rehabilitate her image after embroiling herself in a series of controversies in 2014, feminist writer and actor Lena Dunham issued a preemptive apology for drawing a comparison between Bill Cosby’s rape allegations and the Holocaust in a recent interview.
Dunham has been making the rounds to promote the 4th season of her HBO show “Girls” (the premiere of which saw a 39% drop in viewership over last year). The preemptive apology came in the form of an Instagram post that linked to her recent interview with Time Out Magazine.
The comments came during a discussion of actor/director Judd Apatow, who has been a vocal critic of Cosby (now accused by over twenty women of rape). When the interviewer suggested Apatow was “obsessed” with the Cosby story, Dunham said, like the Holocaust, no amount of attention is too much:
It’s sort of like saying someone’s obsessed with the Holocaust... This is a huge issue, and it speaks to the way that we abuse power and the way that celebrity allows for injustice. In an Instagram post promoting the piece, she noted that it wasn’t her “best analogy” and underscored her Jewish heritage:
Very excited about my pop art Time Out NY cover, photo by Danielle Levitt and popification by Chad Silver ️ My best friend and partner @campsucks interviewed me and it was a ball. However, I feel I didn't properly express my respect & passion for Karen O. and Danny DeVito. Additionally I'm already aware comparing Bill Cosby to the Holocaust wasn't my best analogy. They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
“As a general rule, the earlier you recognize someone is trying to kill you, the better off you’ll be.”
"You think a wall as solid as the earth separates civilisation from barbarism. I tell you the division is a sheet of glass."
Marge may think this star is that type of girl after this - or at least have a few things to say about her.
Lena Dunham has revealed she is the latest of a string of celebrities to score a cameo on The Simpsons.
And not surprisingly, the 29-year-old is set to be a controversial addition to the long running cartoon when she appears this Sunday.

Cartoon controversy: On Wednesday, Lena Dunham revealed what her character will look like on the Simpsons in a saucy bedroom snap with Homer
The Girls star revealed what she looks like as one of the bright yellow animated characters for the first time late Wednesday night.
While Simpson fans had been warned things were about to get rocky between the beloved couple Marge and Homer, for some the image of Homer in bed with another woman may come as a bit of a shock.
In the image, Lena's character - she will not be playing a stylised version of herself like some celebrities - is seen waking up and looking over her tattooed shoulder at a shock, and apparently naked, Homer.

Same, same but different: They may both have tattoos and wear little clothes on camera, but the star is playing a edgy pharmacist rather than herself or even her Girls' character (pictured)
Captioning the snap, the director said: 'Meanwhile I have the tremendous/horrendous fortune of waking up next to Homer this Sunday on The Simpsons #homewrecker #sexualhealing.'
In June, it had been revealed that Lena was set to guess star - as are a number of Girls actors - on Fox's iconic cartoon.
Touch times: Marge and Homer have legally separated when he falls for Lena's character
Lena is playing an edgy pharmacist who Homer falls for after his marriage with Marge hits the skids.
Series' executive producer Al Jean told Variety that the 27th season of the show television's golden - well yellow - couple are in deep trouble.
He told Variety: 'It's discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy - a chronic neurological disorder that affects the control of sleep, causing uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep, even during activities that demand attention - and it's an incredible strain on the marriage.
'Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who's voiced by Lena Dunham. We'll have cameos from the other women from Girls.'
While the thought of the long-time married pair calling it quits is shocking, this is no the first time Homer has been tempted to stray - or even the first time he has been tempted by a celebrity.
Back in 1992, the Simpson patriarch ran away to become a music manager to beautiful country singer Lurleen Lumpkin played by Beverly D'Angelo and then in 1993, he had eyes for his new coworker Mindy voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer.
Marge has come close to straying too with a bowling instructor Jacques Brunswick (voiced by Albert Brooks) encouraging her - unsuccessfully - to get back in the singles game in Season 1.

Or the second: Then in 1993, he had eyes for his new coworker Mindy voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer
Most recently in 2013, the blue hair stunner accidentally found herself on the Springfield version of Ashley Madison and started an online chat affair with Ben (voiced by Seth MacFarlane).
Then, as no doubt it will now, love prevailed and Marge and Homer stayed together.
Lena is certainly having a big few days, on Thursday she revealed that she had interviewed presidential hopeful Hilary Clinton for her new website LennyLetter.com.

In a short clip released, Hilary tells Lena that she is 'absolutely' a feminist: 'I'm always a little bit puzzled when any woman of whatever age, but particularly a young woman, says something like, ''Well, I believe in equal rights but I'm not a feminist.'''
'Well, a feminist is by definition someone who believes in equal rights. I'm hoping that people will not be afraid to say, that doesn't mean you hate men, it doesn't you want to separate out the world, so you're not a part of ordinary life - that's not what it means at all! It just means that we believe that women have the same rights as men.'
