NP3 High School principal responds to concerns over Hijab Day with smears

January 29, 2015 1:59 pm By Robert Spencer 69 Comments
The exchange below is yet another example of how one side of the debate about Sharia and jihad is trying to have a rational discussion, while the other responds only with slogans and smears. A woman in California responded to my call yesterday to write to NP3 High School principal Tom Rutten. She then received the email below, which is drearily predictable with its cries of “hate” and lack of specific response to any of the concerns she raised. She kindly forwarded this response to me, and I wrote the third email below to Rutten.
I don’t expect a response, or at least one that deals with the points I raised, so I thought I’d post all three emails here so that you can see which side here is being reasonable, and what happens when those whose political views are not favored ask reasonable questions.
Meanwhile, Hamas-linked CAIR is crowing over this ridiculous piece on the controversy, and well they should crow, as only their point of view is represented. Fox 40 made no attempt to contact me, of course, or to speak with anyone who wrote letters to the school expressing concern over Hijab Day. The whole thing is dismissed, as always in the mainstream media, as “bigotry” — on that, see my email to Rutten below. The Fox 40 story is also riddled with errors. I did not name the student responsible for Hijab Day in my post, as you can see here. The principal’s name is Rutten, not Sutten.
And of course Fox 40 makes no mention of CAIR’s ties to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, the jihad terror convictions of several of its former officials, the fact that the United Arab Emirates designated it a terror organization, etc. But it does go out of its way to say I (without naming me) am “anti-Muslim,” without bothering to note the issues regarding the oppression of women and religion-and-state involved here. Typical sloppy and one-sided mainstream media story. In posting it, Hamas-linked CAIR has disabled comments, as they always do. That in itself is telling.
    1. Concerned citizen to Tom Rutten:
I am a taxpayer, Girl Scout leader, and public education advocate in Southern California, and I am writing to express my shock, dismay, and disappointment at learning that a school in your district, the Natomas Unified School District, held a Hijab Day today, encouraging all girls and women to wear hijabs. This is outrageous.
It’s outrageous primarily because it brought religion into a public school in a way that directly conflicts with the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which prohibits school-sponsored prayer and religious indoctrination. Encouraging girls and women to wear hijabs for “modesty” is clearly an example of religious indoctrination. Can you imagine the public outrage if a Jewish student requested “Yarmulke Day” and all men and boys at the school were urged to wear a head covering of the type that Jewish men and boys wear? It’s unimaginable. For your future use, here’s a guideline on Religion in Schools produced by the ACLU: http://www.aclu-tn.org/pdfs/briefer_...ic_schools.pdf.
Additionally, it’s astounding because, per the flyer, “Hijab Day” was organized by, or encouraged by the Muslim Students Association, which is considered by many national security experts to be tied to the Muslim Brotherhood. In other words, tied to terrorism. I could provide you a dozen links to articles about this, but perhaps you’d like to do your own google search. It’s out there.
I know that you are a busy man, Mr. Rutten, but I really would like to understand why the NP3 thought this was acceptable. If you’d please reply to me, I’d appreciate that.
    2. Tom Rutten to the concerned citizen:
Since this was a student run event I have attached the student response below.
    Tom Rutten
At a time when anti-Muslim sentiment is growing, I wanted to let my classmates and teachers know about the challenges that young Muslim women face when they put on a headscarf. It is unfortunate that a small effort to promote mutual understanding would provoke such a hate-filled and irrational response.
NP3 Hijab Day was part of my Senior Project, meant to bring awareness to my campus about the misconceptions surrounding Islam, particularly those surrounding the headscarf. I invited a speaker to talk to faculty about addressing Islamophobia in the classroom and the challenges in the Muslim world, and they appreciated the open and frank discussion.
The irrational reaction by some intolerant individuals is similar to the many manufactured controversies nationwide over the teaching of basic information about Islam, the faith of one-fifth of the world’s population, in public schools. In many other cases, any discussion of Islam or American Muslims brings about this reaction.
The person who promoted the misinformation about this issue, Robert Spencer, is one of the most notorious Islamophobes in America.
This extreme reaction clearly demonstrates why this presentation was needed in the first place.

    3. Robert Spencer to Tom Rutten:
    Dear Mr. Rutten:
Thank you for your kind response to Ms. [redacted], which she forwarded to me.
The message from your student was most interesting. I trust that you have explained to her that to respond to the concerns voiced by Ms. [redacted] and others by linking to a smear piece on me is an example of the ad hominem fallacy: attacking the person voicing the concerns rather than the concerns themselves. The Southern (not “South”) Poverty Law Center attack piece is also highly inaccurate and misleading. The FBI, in fact, even stopped using the SPLC’s work on “hate groups” last year, in light of the fact that the SPLC had stopped tracking real hate groups and was using the label to smear those who disagreed with its political views: http://washingtonexaminer.com/shocke...rticle/2546305
I am not going to try your patience by showing the falsehood of all of SPLC’s smear claims; suffice it for the moment to point out that I have led seminars on Islam and jihad for the United States Central Command, United States Army Command and General Staff College, the U.S. Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group, the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, and the U.S. intelligence community.
I trust that you also have explained or will explain to your student that to dismiss all concern about NP3 Hijab Day as “hate-filled,” “irrational,” and “Islamophobic” doesn’t contribute in the least to “open and frank discussion,” but actually forecloses on the possibility of such a discussion by trying to intimidate people into thinking that concerns they thought were legitimate are actually manifestations of a “bigotry” they were not aware they had. This is just the opposite of “open and frank discussion,” and I am sure you would agree that this kind of name-calling, intimidation, and groupthink should not be encouraged in academic settings at any level

    Utopias

Posted on October 11, 2016 by Baron Bodissey

The latest essay from our Israeli correspondent MC discusses those who would create for us a future that is the Best of Al Possible Worlds.

    Utopias
    by MC

The perversion that is Leftism and the fellow perversion that is Islam see the world as a gap analysis between their perceived utopias and the current state of their union(s).
They see their utopia through its rose tinted spectacles, and then they look at the world around themselves. Instead of seeing a wonderful creation, they see the warts and the cancers that would not exist if their particular view of perfection was inflicted on all and sundry — that is, us, the excluded, the great unwashed crowd of peons lacking their form of enlightenment.
If they were God, they know that they could and would do a better job.
But what if creation is already perfect, and that it is man’s utopias that are the canker that causes all the unintended consequences?
We can demonstrate evolution working within a kind (a group of animals which can reproduce with each other), but in proposing that evolution can work across species is a gigantic leap in complexity. Darwin posited this leap in his famous chapter five, but unfortunately there is still a shortage of empirical evidence to support the theory, even if the theory has become a scientific paradigm.
Socialism, too, has become a similar socio-scientific paradigm in soft-science academia and beyond, and once again there is a huge leap in complexity between socialism working within a small community, and socialism working at a national and supra-national level.
Some close friends of mine are members of one of the more successful kibbutz communities here in Israel. There was a time when the kibbutz was held up as the ideal socialist community, but the difference between the kibbutz and its spectacularly unsuccessful poor relation the kolkhoz communal collective farm was selectivity. The kibbutz chose its members very, very carefully, and still does. The kolkhoz, however, had to labor under the socialist ‘equality’ myth, and was thus disastrous.
The promise of ‘utopia’ is very much a religious thing. Religion appropriates the moral high ground and removes from people the need to make (and act upon) moral decisions for themselves. Those decisions are made by a ‘religious’ elite and passed down as commandments to their adherents (the useful idiots).
This provides a very clear and concise environment within which one can signal one’s virtue.
So we have a political force calling itself a ‘religion’, and a ‘religion’ calling itself a political entity, and I don’t know which is more dangerous, but between them they are destroying the civilization we know and love, all because they are obsessed with their idea of their utopia, a utopia where I can only do only what they deem fit.
Creation is very much a mystical thing. We know it happened, but we can only speculate as to how it happened. The big bang theory and its corollary of evolution release us from a rigidity of catholic religious thinking. Jews do not switch on the lights during Sabbath because the rabbinical elite decided that it is “kindling a fire” (forbidden in Torah — see Numbers 15). The rabbi who made up this takkanah thought that there was fire inside the lamp. When it was demonstrated that it was excited tungsten wire, the takkanah was then defended by the observation the there was a spark at the switch. As a result I was criticized by the religious matron upstairs for having an automatic LED lamp on the dark and dangerous stairway outside the apartment — she wanted me to switch it off on Shabbat.
However, those who liberated themselves from these religious stupidities then created their own pseudo-scientific stupidity called ‘consensus’ science, where science was deemed to be solely material and/or social and where, if something was not detectable by the five senses, or otherwise approved by socialist academia, then it was obvious that it did not exist. Further, this physicalist academist science was politicized into Lysenkoism where pseudo-sciences such as ‘climate change’ also became political propaganda, and the doors of the metaphysical and the physical gaols were flung open to receive deniers and those perpetrating ‘hate’: a new religion, a new heresy and a new inquisition. Always the same thing.

California: Prominent Mideast Studies Profs Sexually Harassed Students

    By Cinnamon Stillwell
The famously self-righteous field of Middle East studies, which lambasts outside criticism as “censorship” and condemns America, Israel, and the West while lauding Islamists, now finds itself on the defensive. Two of its leading lights, the University of California, Berkeley’s Nezar AlSayyad and the University of California, Los Angeles’s Gabriel Piterberg, have been accused of sexually harassing female graduate students.
In October, UC Berkeley concluded an investigation, finding that, between 2012 and 2014, AlSayyad, who chairs the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) and teaches architecture, built a relationship, including frequent social invitations and hugs, with graduate student Eva Hagberg Fisher in an effort to “groom” her. A car ride during which he put his hand on her thigh and proposed a trip together to Las Vegas was the final straw.
    Alsayyad

The report found that AlSayyad isolated the student from other professors and was on the exam committee whose approval was required for her to complete her dissertation. He also edited a journal in which many students hoped to be published.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that two other students complained about AlSayyad’s conduct, including one who filed a complaint in April alleging they had sex over twenty years ago under similar circumstances. While AlSayyad denies the charges, the investigation upheld Hagberg Fisher’s claims and the university suspended him for a semester.
Berkeley graduate students, upset at the university for its initial silence, expressed their disapproval by walking out of AlSayyad’s section, protesting outside his department, and marching across campus chanting, “Protect Students, Not Tenure.” They have the option of completing one of his required courses with a new instructor.
Some current and former students sent a letter to Berkeley’s administration defending AlSayyad and asking that the university “withhold judgement” until the investigation has concluded. Transforming the Egyptian-born AlSayyad into the victim, the signatories asserted an atmosphere of “increased conflicts and racist sentiments” could lead to a rush to judgement, “especially when the subject is being identified in the news as a Middle East scholar.” It’s little wonder he claimed earlier, “I actually feel terribly victimized.”
    Piterberg

The case of UCLA history professor and former Center for Near Eastern Studies director Gabriel Piterberg is even more abhorrent. In September, UCLA settled with two graduate students who sued the university in 2015 for taking insufficient action and for discouraging them from filing formal complaints against Piterberg, whom they alleged had repeatedly sexually harassed and assaulted them over a period of years.
Piterberg had served as one of the student’s dissertation advisor, while the other had to work in the same building with him. His position on the departmental funding committee forced her to seek funds outside of the history department.
UCLA’s settlement with Piterberg fined him $3,000, ordered him not to meet with his students in his office with the door closed, required him to attend sexual harassment training, and suspended him for one academic quarter.
The university’s leniency sparked student protests, faculty outcry, and a petition demanding his dismissal. Another petition calling for his removal from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy led to his resignation as a visiting scholar.

Enraged Californians Rebel Against Gov. Moonbeam’s Massive Tax Hike On Cars And Gasoline

California taxpayers are finally fighting back against their out-of control legislature and governor.
    Via Washington Times:
In California, a state known for its love of driving, high-priced gasoline and history of tax revolts, a rebellion is brewing against Gov. Jerry Brown’s massive gas-and-car tax increase.
In the two weeks since the Democrat signed Senate Bill 1, opponents have launched an initiative drive to repeal the $52.4 billion transportation package as well as a recall campaign to eject a vulnerable Democratic state senator who is seen as the deciding vote for the law.
“The voters are enraged,” said Assemblyman Travis Allen, the Orange County Republican behind the repeal initiative, which is pegged to the November 2018 ballot.
Gas is already expensive in California — the state vies with Hawaii for the nation’s highest per-gallon prices — and SB1 will make it more so by dinging motorists with a 12-cent-per-gallon excise tax hike on gasoline, a 20-cent increase on diesel and higher vehicle registration fees in order to fill potholes, repair roads and bridges, and expand mass transit.
What has Mr. Allen fuming is that lawmakers pushed through the largest fuel tax hike in state history without bringing it before the voters. Instead, they cobbled together a two-thirds vote in both houses of the Democrat-controlled Legislature with no votes to spare.
Only one Republican — state Sen. Anthony Cannella — voted in favor of SB1, and that was after his Central Valley district received $500 million for a commuter rail extension and completion of a parkway to the University of California, Merced.
“The California voters were absolutely left out of the loop,” said Mr. Allen. “There was certainly not substantive buy-in from the California people, who, according to all of the polling data, are overwhelmingly against raising gas taxes.”
In Fullerton, three Southern California radio talk show hosts kicked off a campaign Thursday to recall state Sen. Josh Newman, a first-term Democratic legislator who barely edged out his Republican opponent in November, in retaliation for his vote.
“That’s the only thing that works, is to take one of their team members out, politically,” said Ken Chiampou, who hosts with John Kobylt “John and Ken” on KFI-AM in Los Angeles. “If there’s no consequence, no punishment, then they’re going to keep right on doing this crap.”

San Francisco Transit Withholds Surveillance Tapes To Avoid Creating Racial ‘Stereotypes’

More important to be nonsensically p.c. then to actually catch the criminal with real information.
    Via Daily Caller:
The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system in San Francisco and Oakland has been withholding video evidence of crimes committed on trains and at stations perpetrated by groups of teenagers, it has been revealed.
According to CBS Local, dozens of teenagers committed large-scale acts of robbery and assaults in the months of April and June. In April, “forty to sixty” teenagers boarded a train at Coliseum stop, where they proceeded to rob seven passengers and beat up two. In June, four teens assaulted a passenger and stole his cellphone. Just two days later, about a dozen teens snatched the phone of a woman on a train.

ADL Condemns Anti-Semitic Sermons By Two California Muslim Clerics…

Riverside California is a new hotbed of Muslim insanity.
    Via ADL:
New York, NY, July 25, 2017 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned anti-Semitic sermons by two imams in California who, in response to recent violence in Jerusalem and Israel’s decision to install temporary security measures at Al Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, spewed angry and hateful invective toward Jews.
According to reports, Sheikh Ammar Shahin of the Islamic Center of Davis in Northern California, prayed that God would “liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the filth of the Jews” and to “annihilate them down to the very last one. Do not spare any of them.”
Also last Friday, Mahmoud Harmoush, the imam at the Islamic Center of Riverside, near the University of California, Riverside, sermonized about a plot between World War I and II to steal the land of Palestine from Muslims through “killing, crime and massacres.”
He went on to suggest that Jews are now trying to extend that conflict beyond Palestine to “most of the Middle East, and even, as I said, Mecca and Medina.” He ended his prayer with a call for Allah to “destroy them … disperse them and rend them asunder. Turn them into booty in the hands of the Muslims.”

California Bill Wants To Drop Washington/Lincoln’s Birthday And Replace It With Communist Holiday

    Via Daily Caller:
The California Assembly discussed Thursday a bill that would replace Abraham Lincoln or George Washington’s birthday with International Socialist Workers’ Day as a paid holiday.
California Democrat Assemblyman Miguel Santiago introduced Bill AB-3042, which would allow schools to replace Washington Day and Lincoln Day with Presidents’ Day and install an “International Workers’ Day” — conventionally known as “May Day” — as a second holiday.
“I’m aghast that a bill like this would be able to get through committee,” California Republican Assemblyman Matthew Harper said to the Assembly. “Are we in competition to be the laughing stock of the United States?”

    “ALLAH AKBAR”

May 14, 2018 9:49 pm By Robert Spencer 86 Comments

“Allahu akbar” means Allah is greater, i.e., greater than your god. It’s a declaration of superiority. Jihad mass murderers the world over scream “Allahu akbar” as they murder people.” 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta reminded himself to “shout, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.”
And here it is in the Rancho Cucamonga High School yearbook, because they are tolerant, multicultural, diverse, and against “racism.” The Rancho Cucamonga High School yearbook contains no pages on Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. Why does it contain these pages on Islam? Because it is the prevailing view among Leftists today that Muslims are persecuted, harassed and discriminated against on a large scale in America today, and that this happens because of Americans’ ignorance of Islam.
Both claims are nonsense. The FBI’s latest hate crime statistics show that Jews are twice more likely to be the victims of hate crimes than Muslims. Yet there is no presentation on Judaism in Rancho Cucamonga High School’s yearbook. And if anyone does have a negative opinion of Islam, it is because of jihad terror, not ignorance of Islam.
These pages on Islam are in the Rancho Cucamonga High School yearbook as a testament to how successful Islamic advocacy groups and their Leftist allies have been in deflecting attention away from the reality of jihad terror and portraying Muslims in the U.S., however spuriously, as a victim group needing special consideration and accommodation.
