The Governor Moonbeam Express Is 13 Years Late And Over Budget By $44 Billion

California, putting the unicorn before the cart.
    Via Planetizen:
Ralph Vartabedian reports on the status of the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s acquisition of land in the Central Valley. “The slow progress in many cases has pushed back construction timetables for the Los Angeles-to-San Francisco system, caused delay claims by contractors and hardened the emotions of some property owners.”
The project is already 13 years behind schedule, and the budget overrun is at $44 billion. In the Central Valley alone, the initial cost estimate of $332 million to acquire properties has skyrocketed to $1.5 billion. “There are fights about farm wells and trellises. Debates about the value of nut trees apart from the land where they grow. And tears shed over the loss of land held by families for more than a century,” says Vartabedian.
The authority still needs to acquire 160 of 378 parcels in Kings County. The area has complex agricultural systems, and resistance from farmers has been intense. “When a track cuts a vineyard diagonally, for instance, the trellis structure and the grape vines must be either removed or restrung. That can curtail production for years and the state has to pay for it, farmers say,” reports Vartabedian.
Adding to the slow progress is the fact that one judge from Southern California is hearing the disputes, since all of the county’s superior court judges have recused themselves, and Caltrans lawyers representing the authority are scattered throughout the state.

San Fran’s New Mayor Is Trying To Free Her Violently Murderous Brother from Prison

Napoleon Brown hasn’t always made the best choices in life. In 2000, he robbed a diner in San Francisco. While fleeing the crime scene, he pushed mother-of-two Lenthias White out of the getaway car and directly into Golden Gate Bridge traffic.
A vehicle soon struck the woman, killing her.

Brown has also been involved with hard drugs. While serving his 44-year sentence for the killing and robbery, he was busted with heroin that had been smuggled in. His sister, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, admits that Brown’s drug problem developed at an early age and “led to a young life of crime.”
But now that very same sister says it’s time for his freedom.
“Too many people, particularly young black men like my brother was when he was convicted, are not given an opportunity to become contributing members of society after they have served time in prison,” Breed wrote in a recently released October letter to California Gov. Jerry Brown. “I believe my brother deserves that opportunity.”
The appeal to the governor came just months after Breed became mayor, and less than halfway through her brother’s 44-year sentence.
This timing, along with the fact that Brown leaves office in January, should be enough to begin raising some eyebrows. If she was interested in criminal justice reform, there are plenty of nonviolent offenders who deserve to have their cases reviewed.
Breed, however, claims the letter is right on time — her brother is finally ready to re-enter society and is “committed to turning his life around,” she says.
Unfortunately, Breed has sometimes been less than truthful about her brother’s situation.
In Brown’s 2005 trial, his sister denied telling police officers her brother’s nickname. The initial investigator’s report from five years earlier reveals a much different story, however. Breed originally told investigators both of her brother’s nicknames, “S.B.” and “Sonny Boy.”
As Brown’s victim lay dying, she gave police one of these nicknames, implicating him in the crime.
Breed has not been completely transparent about her role in defending her brother, either. In fact, her letter doesn’t even mention that she provided an alibi for him. Breed claims he was sound asleep on their grandmother’s couch less than an hour before the time police gave for the diner robbery.
Despite not apologizing for his behavior in the letter, Breed still doesn’t seem to grasp the full gravity of her brother’s crime.
Apparently oblivious to the fact that Brown violently killed a young mother, Breed writes that she considers the sentence unfair. She says Brown has completed “parenting programs, alternatives to violence programs, and restorative justice programs.”
Although Breed’s letter also mentions her brother’s completion of a 12-step program, it fails to bring up his relatively recent heroin charge.
And if freed, Napoleon Brown won’t be hitting the street empty-handed, either.
His sister confirmed in the letter that he would have access to a job, a home and counseling services.
Breed’s final appeal in the letter says that prison isn’t the place for her brother to make “meaningful amends.” She argues his release would be “what’s best for both Napoleon and society overall.”

California following in the footsteps of Venezuela to disarm the masses, then enslave them to dictatorial TYRANNY

(Natural News) A series of proposals that would further limit access to firearms and ammunition in the state of California is eerily similar to the gun control measures that were implemented in the failed socialist state of Venezuela, where reports indicate that dissidents are now being “crushed by the increasingly tyrannical and brutal socialist government.”
Following the passage and enactment of both Proposition 63 and Senate Bill 1235 in the Golden State, the California Department of Justice released the first of apparently many regulatory proposals that will make it increasingly more difficult for Californians to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Set to take effect on July 1, 2019, the first proposal will require everyone who purchases ammunition in California to first undergo a mandatory background check. The subsequent proposals will address various other regulatory definitions to require a lot more hoop-jumping in order for everyday California citizens to purchase guns and ammo.
Oppressed Venezuelans only WISH they had a Second Amendment

To some, these proposals might appear to simply be “reasonable” gun control measures aimed at making it more difficult for criminals to obtains weapons of mass murder. But in reality, they’re incremental steps designed to eventually remove guns entirely.
Back in 2012, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez passed similar measures that, just one year later under the so-called “Control of Arms, Munitions and Disarmament Law,” led to the systematic elimination of all gun ownership rights throughout the country.
Sponsored solution from the Health Ranger Store: Lab-verified Nascent Iodine solution is a dietary supplement that provides your body with supplemental iodine to help protect your thyroid during radiation exposure. Nuclear accidents such as Fukushima (or nuclear war) can expose your body to radioactive iodine-131, a dangerous radioisotope. Pre-loading your system with stable iodine occupies the iodine receptor sites on your organs, causing your body to naturally expel radioactive iodine you may have been exposed to through air, food, water or milk products. This defensive strategy is recommended by nearly all health authorities, worldwide, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Discover more at this link.

Fast-forward another five years and look where Venezuela is at today.
“Guns would have served as a vital pillar to remaining a free people, or at least able to put up a fight,” says Javier Vanegas, a 28-year-old English teacher who told Fox News that the initial laws in Venezuela, just like these new proposals in California, were described as efforts to reduce crime and protect people. But in reality, they turned out to be something entirely different.
“The government security forces, at the beginning of this debacle, knew they had no real opposition to their force,” Vanegas is quoted as saying. “Once things were this bad, it was a clear declaration of war against an unarmed population.”
Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, has issued similar warnings about so-called “reasonable” gun control laws. Except, in America’s case, he contends, it’s about stoking civil war.
“The real goal, it turns out, is to initiate a bloody civil war as a reaction to the gun grab, setting the stage for Democrats’ demands to occupy America with United Nations troops and overthrow Trump by military force,” Adams writes.

Attorneys from both the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) are reportedly reviewing these proposals, and they plan to provide more information to their members and supporters in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, gun freedom advocates are encouraging the public to submit comments, both oral and written, in opposition to changes.
“According to DOJ’s (Department of Justice) posted notice, there will be two public hearings allowing both oral and written comments which will be held at the following dates, times and locations,” reports Guns In The News.
Those dates, times, and locations are as follows:
