5/17 - DHS/FBI warning law enf and gov officials nationwide of threats of revenge flwg specops raid in Syria that killed ISIS commander Abu Sayyaf. Vigilance urged. What You Need To KnowOn Sunday of this week AlertsUSA subscribers were notified via text messages to their mobile devices regarding threats of retaliation by the Islamic State following a raid by U.S. Army special operations forces in eastern Syria which killed a high-ranking ISIS commander Abu Sayyaf, captured his wife and freed a Yezidi woman believed to be held as a slave.
According to a media release by the Department of Defense, Abu Sayyaf was involved in the Islamic State's military operations and helped direct the terrorist organization's illicit oil, gas, and financial operations.
Following the raid, supporters of the extremist organization were vowing revenge. Quoting one of several threatening messages posted to the internet:
The individual also tweeted a graphic photoshopped image depicting President Obama on his belly, with his head pulled back and being beheaded.
While it is highly unlikely that Islamic State militants would ever get anywhere near the President, this does not negate the threat posed to other high ranking U.S. officials or members of the public. To this end, law enforcement agencies nationwide have been warned of the threat and urged to maintain a high level of vigilance.
To remove any confusion, the name Abu Sayyaf, which means "father of the Swordmaker" is also the name of a militant Islamist group and designated terrorist organization based in the Southern Philippines. There is no reported relationship between Abu Sayyaf, the individual, and the terrorist organization carrying the same name, nor is there any direct relationship between the killing of Abu Sayyaf and the new travel warning for the Philippines mentioned later in this update.
AlertsUSA urges readers to keep in mind that recent threats of terrorist attacks are not just limited to the Islamic State and their supporters. Over the last several months we have reported on viable threats from a number of different groups, including the Somali terror organization al-Shabaab who have called for attacks on U.S. and Canadian shopping malls and al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula whom have repeatedly targeted the aviation sector, called for lone wolf attacks and even published home-made bom b making techniques within their quarterly online magazine known as inspire.
DOMESTIC UNREST INCREASING - WATCH YOUR BACK
On a number of occasions over the past several months, AlertsUSA subscribers have been notified of the outbreak of violent protests and rioting in multiple "urban" areas across the country most often having to do with media-stoked public outcry over aggressive police activity and use of deadly force, etc.. I
Just three weeks ago in the midst of riots in Baltimore, AlertsUSA issued the following warning:
This week, shocking crime statistics were released by the City of Baltimore showing that homicides are up 200 percent compared to this time last year; non-fatal shootings have risen 800 percent and robberies of varying types are up 100 to 300 percent. In just the last 30 days, more than 30 people have been killed, and in excess of 40 have been wounded by gunfire.
And this is just Baltimore. Similar increases in violent crime are being reported within inner city areas across the country.
Here again, AlertsUSA warns readers that racial tensions in America are climbing fast, as are the number of violent black on white attacks being reported by local media outlets across the country, but rarely touched by national media. It is imperative that readers exercise extreme caution when in urban areas nationwide.
BEWARE THE HOLIDAY URBAN CELEBRATIONS
Additionally, this particular holiday weekend has become notorious for increased crime and violent behavior in such places as Miami for what is known as Urban Beach Week, Myrtle Beach, SC for what is known as Black Bike Week, as well as numerous other coastal vacation spots, typically in the South Eastern and Southern U.S.. In some locations, crime and violence has become so acute that many businesses now just close for the week and local residents leave. In light of increasing racial tensions nationwide, as well as growing angst with police, we again urge readers to maintain a high level of vigilance and security awareness if visiting any of these areas.
