The Medina Independent School District put up a sign warning parents and students the Medina faculty may be packing heat and not afraid to use it.
“I think that anybody who might have a thought about harming someone in mind would think twice about it,” Medina ISD superintendent Penny White suggested.
Jillian Sides, a mother of two Medina students, agreed. “I’m perfectly fine with it.”
“I think you’ve got to do whatever you’ve got to do,” Bandera County resident Genie Strickland said.
“I don’t have a problem with that at all,” Medina resident Rod Grunwald said. “That’s good.”
Officials say having faculty carry firearms is just being practical since they don’t have quick-response security nearby.
“We’re 20 minutes or 25 minutes from Bandera, and that’s our closest law enforcement,” White said.

You think that even though Islam is an evil ideology, it should be legal, because outlawing it would be against the First Amendment.
There are good ideas and bad ideas. A car with square wheels is a bad idea, and anyone who would like to drive it will find that out at their first attempt. It takes less than five minutes to figure it out, for those who believed that theoretically it should work and that it was worth to build it to convince themselves.
What if, on the restaurant menu, in the drinks section, they put, in addition to iced tea, sodas and fruit juices, a bolder option: Poison? Now we could discuss it and see if we all agree whether it’s a good or a bad idea to drink poison, or we could just try it, because we are free to try everything ourselves. Could you still be upset with the restaurant for selling poison if they warned you, and you drank it anyway?
Islam is poison. It is warning you what it is, and yet you accept the invitation?
There are bad ideas that will take longer than five minutes to show how bad they are: we can indeed not only talk about them every time ( which I strongly recommend), but additionally try them out (which isn’t necessary, in my opinion, if it has already been demonstrated how bad they are). But is using your fragile body, instead of your stronger, more resilient mind (an idea can upset you, but won’t kill your mind) a really good idea?
There’s confusion between discussing Islam (which should be allowed and encouraged), and letting Islam be Islam and do what it does. There’s confusion between theory and practice, between speech and action. There are several problems related to that second thing, action: we already have laws that forbid what Islam does; so we don’t have to forbid it separately. Oh, no? This is very contradictory:

• on the one hand, you forbid stealing, but you allow Islam (which actively encourages stealing from infidels). Why would you make exception for Islam?
• You forbid murder, yet you allow Islam, (which encourages the killing of infidels, gays, apostates, rape victims and cheating wives). Why would you make an exception for Islam and allow it?
• You forbid false witness in court and slander, yet you are OK with Islam (whose doctrines of taqiyya and kitman mandate that their adherents to lie in order to promote Islam). Why Islam preaching deception is all right with you?

You let them build mosques, worship, wear unhealthy — and in many ways dangerous — clothing (no peripheral vision when driving, and who is hiding beneath that burka or niqab?), segregate boys from girls, practice FGM, marry prepubescent girls, rape little boys, and so on. Do you say, “Stop”, or do you talk about it and wait until they feel so inadequate and ridiculous that they stop all that nonsense by themselves?
Have you seen that happen, ever?

Texas officially withdraws from US Refugee Admissions Program; feds cannot assure security screening of all refugees

This is a major blow to the US Refugee Admissions Program since Texas is, by far, the largest resettlement state in the nation.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Governor Greg Abbott seem to be in sync this week on protecting Texas from not adequately screened refugees.

The governor’s complaint is that the federal government cannot adequately assure the state of Texas that all of the refugees from the Middle East and Africa being placed there are thoroughly screened.
And, in fact, that was confirmed in Senate testimony we heard this week (click here). At that hearing Senator Cruz of Texas elicited some damning testimony from federal officials.
The arrogant federal resettlement contractor will of course claim they can still operate in Texas as a so-called Wilson-Fish state like more than a dozen other states operate where there is no state government involvement. However, the Wilson-Fish program itself is constitutionally questionable and Governor Abbott, if serious, could block that too with a legal challenge.
But, at least in the short run, the program will be seriously disrupted and that alone will send ripples through the entire refugee industry.
Here is the news (at Breitbart) that happened on the eve of the new fiscal year (tomorrow!) which will see a massive inflow of refugees especially from Syria and other hotbeds of terrorism unless the Republican Congress cuts the funding for the program when Congress reconvenes after the election in November.
Governor Greg Abbott has officially pulled the plug on Texas’ participation in the federal refugee resettlement program after the Obama Administration rejected specific security conditions.
The move by the Texas governor stops the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (THHSC) from coordinating the resettlement of these refugees that the Obama Administration has repeatedly said they cannot certify not to be a threat to the residents of the state. His action follows the rejection of a proposal announced previously where Texas officials demanded a certification that the refugees were not a security threat and a limit on the number of refugees to the original 2016 plan.
“Texas has repeatedly requested that the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Director of National Intelligence provide assurances that refugees resettled in Texas will not pose a security threat, and that the number of refugees resettled in Texas would not exceed the State’s original allocation in fiscal year 2016 – both of which have been denied by the federal government,” Abbott said in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas. “As a result, Texas will withdraw from the refugee resettlement program. As governor, I will continue to prioritize the safety of all Texans and urge the federal government to overhaul this severely broken system.”

GYOR, Hungary — During a recruiting fair at a police proving ground here, a gaggle of teenagers ogled a display of machine guns, batons and riot gear. A glossy flier held out the promise of rugged patrols in 4x4s, super-cool equipment to detect body heat, night-vision goggles and migrant-sniffing dogs.
Because that’s how Hungary’s new “border hunters” roll.
This nation that once sat behind the Iron Curtain is offering a rare glimpse into a world where the build-a-wall mentality to keep migrants out rules the land. On Sunday, Hungarians will cast ballots in a national referendum on European Union quotas for accepting asylum seekers, with polls showing an overwhelming majority of likely voters poised to reject them.
They may as well hang a sign at the border, critics say: Welcome to Hungary — the migrant’s dystopia.

Donald Trump may want a wall, but Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban — a vocal fan of Trump’s immigration plan — has built one. Now, the nation is launching a massive recruitment drive for 3,000 “border hunters.” Their mission: beef up an already formidable migrant blockade, turning Hungary into a global model of how to prevent even the most determined asylum seeker from slipping through.
“Hungary does not need a single migrant for the economy to work or the population to sustain itself or for the country to have a future,” said Orban, who likened migration to “poison.” He added, “Every single migrant poses a public security and terror risk.”
Yet in a country where the Gestapo once hunted Jews and Cold War-era secret police ferreted out dissidents, some here say that the government is in danger of instilling a different kind of fear.
Orban’s government is fueling the public rebellion against the mostly Muslim migrants, critics say, by financing a multimillion-euro campaign asking voters to reject E.U. quotas. Opponents call it the rise of state-sponsored hate speech.
In a widely distributed flier, the campaign is echoing Trump’s claim last year that aggressive Muslim migration has turned some European neighborhoods into “no-go zones.” In one series of national ads, billboards in cities, towns and villages asked Hungarians, “Did you know?” before answering their own question:

• ●“Since the beginning of the migration crisis more than 300 people died in terrorist attacks in Europe.”
• ●“Since the beginning of the migration crisis, harassment against women in Europe increased dramatically.”
• ●“The Paris attacks were carried out by migrants.”

Critics concede it is within the limits of freedom of expression for anti-migrant supporters to make such blanket claims. But what is extraordinary, they say, is the zeal with which the government itself has become a mouthpiece for ethnic and religious caricatures.


[The E.U.’s biggest threat is the will of its people]

The Orban government, they argue, is mainstreaming racism.
“They have launched this extremely vile campaign to portray migrants as rapists and terrorists who can only be stopped if we put up walls to protect our Christian identity,” said Márta Pardavi, co-chair of the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. “To them, it doesn’t matter that it’s not true what they’re saying. They have created a great opportunity for racists.”
‘Setting the agenda’
Europe’s migrant flood of last year has slowed to a trickle, in part because of a tenuous E.U. deal with Turkey as well as a move by Balkan nations to shut their borders.
But hundreds of migrants are still slipping through, and more than 100,000 are stranded in the entry countries of Greece and Italy. All nations in the bloc, E.U. officials say, must share the burden and resettle a certain number of migrants determined by country size, population, economy and other factors.
But Hungary — along with Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia — is suing the E.U. to avoid taking in the 1,294 migrants the bloc says it must resettle. Sunday’s referendum is ostensibly to block future quotas. But it has effectively become a referendum on migrants themselves.
Orban this week suggested one solution: setting up a “giant refugee city” in lawless Libya to process asylum seekers.

Balázs Hidvéghi, a spokesman for Orban’s Fidesz Party, defended the “no” campaign and the hiring of border hunters, rejecting criticism as political correctness.
A former anti-communist activist turned populist nationalist, Orban last year took heat from his European peers for throwing up a fence to block the path of asylum seekers streaming into Europe from the war-torn Middle East. Yet Hidvéghi bragged that, for instance, the leader of Austria — who criticized Orban’s hard-line stance — is out of a job, while Orban is stronger than ever.
“We are setting the agenda,” Hidvéghi said.
One thing is relatively clear: Hungary’s migrant blockade seems to be working.


From a peak of more than 13,000 migrants a day, Hungary has more or less snuffed out illegal migration. About 30 legal migrants a day are allowed into transit centers for processing, and even the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) concedes that very few illegal migrants appear to be getting through.
That is partly because since July, Hungarian police and soldiers — about 8,000 of them — have begun “escorting” back behind the fence any migrant found within five miles of Hungary’s side of the border. Because the fence rests a few feet within Hungarian territory, the government says it is not technically expelling asylum seekers, a violation of international law.
The new border hunters will augment their efforts, officials say, by pairing with more experienced officers to spot migrants from towers and vehicles, track them and ultimately put them back behind the fence.
The UNHCR, however, says the policy appears to violate the Geneva Conventions. In addition, the UNHCR and Doctors Without Borders have documented allegations that the Hungarian police in more than 100 instances used excessive force to return migrants. Some interviewed migrants showed investigators dog bites, severe bruises and other injuries.
“It is a basic right that if a person wants to ask for asylum, they have the right to cross the border in an irregular manner and make such a request,” said Ernö Simon, a senior spokesman for the UNHCR in Hungary.
Most migrants are simply seeking to transit Hungary to get to more generous nations such as Germany. But even some migrants who are permitted into Hungary are “treated like animals,” according to a report released by Amnesty International.
In early August, according to Amnesty, more than half of the 1,200 asylum seekers residing in Hungary were under official detention. Former detainees reported beatings and threats of violence by Hungarian police and security guards.
Hungarian officials call such claims unfounded. Asked about allegations of mistreatment by migrants, Hidvéghi shrugged.


“Migrants have also said they came from Syria and turned out to be terrorists,” he said.
Opponents think the government may move to pass more anti-migrant legislation based on the outcome of Sunday’s vote. Polls show a large majority of likely voters set to reject the quotas — although turnout must exceed 50 percent to make the referendum valid. Some critics are calling for opponents to cast invalid ballots to try to nullify the results.
But whether because of the government campaign or not, many Hungarians seem to echo the sentiments of Daniel Kiss, a 17-year-old at the border hunters recruitment drive in this midsize city. He is eager to graduate high school next year, he said, and then become a border hunter to “defend my country.”
“There are some migrants with goodwill, but the majority are aggressive,” he said. “They just want to get across our border, and we can’t allow that.”

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The teen fatally shot outside a Shreveport convenience store during an attempted carjacking Saturday has been identified as 16-year-old Grandson Johnson of Shreveport, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office.
Shreveport police are investigating the fatal shooting, which happened at 11:41 p.m. in the parking lot of the Circle K in the 300 block of Kings Highway in Shreveport's Highland neighborhood.


Police say Johnson and a 17-year-old were shot after approaching a man who was sitting in the passenger seat of a truck that had just pulled up to the store after the driver had gone inside.
"During that time, two individuals walked up to the vehicle, to the victim's truck, pointed a gun at the victim, ordered him out," said SPD spokesman Cpl. Marcus Hines
Police say the two suspects got into the vehicle.
"The victim, unbeknownst to the suspects, was armed. And he managed to fire rounds, striking both suspects, killing one and seriously injuring the other suspect," said Hines.
Police say Johnson died at the scene. Medics rushed the 17-year-old to University Health hospital with life-threatening injuries. At last check, he was listed in critical but stable condition.
"I was fixing to go in the house and go to bed and then, 'bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam!'" recalled Cathy Walhof, who lives just half a block from the site of the deadly shooting.
Walhof later found out what happened and told us this kind of violence is alarming.
"Scary. We were just sitting in the backyard talking last night about how quiet it was around here. And, it's not quiet no more."
The identity of the attempted carjacking victim has not been released, but Hines said charges are not pending against him.
"Someone pulls a gun on you and orders you out of a car, you have every right to defend yourself."
Les Wallace, a Louisiana State Police conceal carry instructor, agrees.
"This individual was obviously afraid for his life, had two people coming at him as aggressors."
According to the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office, Johnson was identified through information gained from the his personal properly and his identity was confirmed by family members contacted by Shreveport police.
The name of the 17-year-old suspect has not been released.

A police chief in Alabama faces scrutiny after a Muslim rights organization called him out for his Facebook activity.
On Friday, the group said that on September 23, Barry Pendergraft of the Gurley Police Department uploaded a picture featuring a box of bullets with the text, “100 more bacon grease covered bullets in the box! This relaxes me so!!” Then on September 27, he made another post, uploading a video of himself loading ammo. That post featured the text, “Happiness is a couple thousand rounds in the ammo box! Bacon grease dipped of course!”
It’s religious bigotry, states the Alabama chapter for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Alabama) in a statement published Friday. They say the posts feature “a theme often used by anti-Muslim bigots because they falsely believe Muslims cannot enter heaven if they are shot by such ammunition.”
As of Saturday, Pendergraft’s Facebook profile doesn’t feature the alleged posts. Here is a picture of the one from September 27, as provided by CAIR-Alabama.

In The Quran, Allah prohibits the eating of pork except in cases of necessity (presumably poverty and the like).
In any case, CAIR-Alabama wants this checked out.
“We call on state and federal authorities to investigate whether the evident anti-Muslim bigotry expressed by Chief Pendergraft is acceptable for someone in his position, who is obligated to provide all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity, equal and fair treatment,” said Khaula Hadeed.
Gurley Mayor Robert Sentell told AL.com on Friday that he was unware of the Facebook posts, and will look into. We’ve left a message with the Gurley Police Department and will update when we get a response.
