College Offers “WOKEshops” To Teach Students About “Systemic Privilege”…

Lewis and Clark College will host a series of “WOKEshops” during the fall semester to teach students about “different forms of oppression and privilege.”
According to an advertisement for the new series, the so-called “WOKEshops” (derived from the popular social justice slang term “woke”) are designed to help participants “engage in critical reflection, dialogue with people from different backgrounds, explore various identities, and understand systemic privilege and oppression.”
The “WOKEshops,” hosted by the school’s Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement (IME), are free for students to attend and will be “primarily peer-facilitated to create a student space for dialogue.”

Oregon State University To Offer “Fat Studies” Course To Teach That “Weight-Based Oppression” Is A “Social Justice Issue”…

Oregon State University will offer a spring course on “fat studies” in order to teach students how “weight-based oppression” is a “social justice issue.”
According to a syllabus for the course obtained by Campus Reform, students will examine “body weight, shape, and size as an area of human difference subject to privilege and discrimination that intersects with other systems of oppression based on gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and ability.” […]
“Indeed, as the ‘War on Obesity’ has escalated, so has weight-based bias and discrimination,” Lou-Watkins adds, noting that “weight bias is particularly evident among healthcare professionals, compromising the well-being of their patients.”
Similarly, in an article called “Teaching about Eating Disorders from a Fat Studies Perspectives,” Lou-Watkins discusses the sorts of “pedagogy” she now applies in her courses.
“I grew to embrace feminist pedagogy in terms of course content as well as classroom practices,” she explains. “My course now frames body image disturbances more as a function of oppressive societal structures than of individual pathology.”

School Warns Normal-Size Chairs Are A “Microaggression”…

The New School in New York has published an extensive guide on “microaggressions” to warn students that such behavior can be “as damaging as ‘explicit’ aggression.”
According to the guide, even “experiences that are not intentionally hostile or physically threatening can be harmful,” and thus it is critical for The New School as “a university community” to “acknowledge and work to decrease these kinds of hurtful experiences.”
The guide then elaborates on what a “macroaggression may involve,” which can include everything from “denial of bias” and being the “target of jokes” to “cultural insensitivity” and encountering “derogatory language.”
Microaggressions, the guide contends, can come in verbal, nonverbal, and environmental forms, explaining that “being forced to use the complicated industrial elevator and take an extra ten minutes to arrive in class, because you are disable and use a motorized vehicle” is one example of an environmental microaggression.
“Monuments, artwork, or portraiture in public spaces that are predominantly (often exclusively) white cisgender men and women” can also be environmental microaggressions, the guide states, as can class syllabi that feature “only readings from white cisgender men.”

Texas police chief asked to leave doctor's office for carrying gun

CONROE, Texas — A police chief said he was told to leave a doctor’s office because he was carrying his gun.
Police Chief Philip Dupuis told The Courier that he went to see the ENT specialist Tuesday while wearing his badge on his belt next to his gun and his ID on a lanyard around his neck.

He was checking in when the receptionist asked him about his firearm. She requested he store his firearm in his car, but Dupuis refused. He reiterated that he was an officer and he carried his weapon for his safety and the safety of others. He said he was then asked to leave.
Texas law allows licensed police officers to legally open carry anywhere in the state. But private business or property owners can create “weapons-free zones.” According to the Courier, the owner must post a sign referring to the penal code, prohibiting open and concealed carry.
"It's just bad," Dupuis said. "My badge is clearly displayed. I have my lanyard on with 'police' on my ID card hanging around my neck. I had handcuffs. The lobby was full of people, and they asked me to leave because of who I am."
Office Manager Ryan Johnson called Dupuis to apologize and said the office has the same signs posted as other doctors’ offices regarding firearms. It’s unclear whether the signs prohibit both open and concealed carry.
"This was a mistake," Johnson said. "All we can do is sincerely apologize for it and will use it to teach our employees how to better handle these situations when they arise."

Chelsea Handler, whose favorite pastime is shouting abuse at conservatives on Twitter, often calling them Nazis, was just informed on TV that her grandfather was an actual Nazi.

In a new episode of TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are, Chelsea Handler discovers exactly what role her grandfather, Karl Stoecker, played in World War 2, and the history of her family.

Quivering and shaking after being told the news, Handler traces his path from Nazi soldier to American immigrant through documents and interviews with sources familiar with her family’s history.

Handler’s story is made all the more compelling by the fact that was she raised Jewish in a family of faith.

‘My father, I guess, made a deal with my mother when they had children that they were gonna be raised Jewish,’ Handler says. ‘So I connect with my Judaism, or the Jewish side of my family, more than anything else.‘

Daily Mail reports: Growing up, Handler had no idea that her grandfather – a ‘very, very strong man‘ she describes as having a ‘sense of humour‘ – had a dark past.

In the episode, she reveals that he was taken as a prisoner of war to America, where he likely stayed in Montana for several years.

‘When he went back to Germany, he was very eager to come and take his family and move them back to the United States,’ Handler says.

But even after the new immigrant family settled down, the subject of wartime Germany was always avoided by her grandfather.

‘My German grandma definitely spoke about her life during the war way more than my grandfather did,‘ Handler says. ‘He never spoke about it.’

That was probably for good reason, but when all is said and done, Handler may now be less willing to label everybody who disagrees with her a ‘Nazi.’

CONCORD, NH — A local state representative has been charged with assault in Concord District Court and is scheduled to be arraigned in late September, according to court documents. The charge was filed against Katherine Rogers, 61, pictured left, of Alton Woods Drive in Concord, on Aug. 7, 2017, by the New Hampshire State Police. According to a complaint, on Nov. 16, 2016, during the recount for the District 7 state Senate seat held at the state archives building, Rogers allegedly struck Susan Olsen, a 2nd Amendment activist and former state Rep. candidate from Warner, “with a semi-closed right hand squarely on (her) left ear.”

Twitter Rips Into ESPN After They Remove Announcer Because His Name Was Similar To Confederate General
When we ran this story last night, we ran a disclaimer because it was so unbelievable. But then ESPN confirmed it. People were just blow away at the stupidity.

Twitter had a field day after news broke Tuesday that ESPN removed an announcer named Robert Lee from broadcasting an upcoming Virginia Cavalier football game because of the similarity of his name to Confederate General Robert E. Lee.
The story was broken by Outkick The Coverage’s Clay Travis, who has coined the term “MSESPN” to suggest ESPN has a liberal slant, combining the news network and MSNBC. ESPN ultimately confirmed the seemingly unbelievable story, saying it collectively made the decision along with Lee as the tragedy in Charlottesville, Va. unfolded, because “in that moment it felt right to all parties.”
