Ten or so rows of concertina wire ten feet high, in a hundred foot swath running the border with guard towers and electronics and rapid response teams every twenty miles.......or whatever works. Forget the high wall. Drill in some vertical pipes to slow down vehicles the entire route as well.

Fencing, guard towers, sensors, camera's, drones. One standard two lane concrete road running the inside fence.
Little concrete expense outside the road. Put the military to work protecting our southern border, a very vulnerable and strategic attack point. We need them there anyway, given the threats being made clear.

Build that highly functional system in no time at all. And the expense would be minimal in comparison to a concrete wall.

Let Trump make the guard towers, barracks and support sites be ultra deluxe for the teams stationed there. Set a barracks up for every X amount of guard towers, with a rapid response plan for the men off duty. Three teams per tower, one on station, two at the barracks, each barracks handling X towers. Layered, efficient, inexpensive, highly functional, overlapping support. Make the towers strong, safe, and comfortable. Make it a sought after duty.

Build a nice rifle range at every one of them. Put full size targets out, way the heck out there. Encourage this duty as an opportunity to refine one's marksmanship. Let them compete. Heck it would be easy to create a series of targets that are hit / miss with sensors that score. One could actually have a shooting competition for each duty shift across the entire border. How fun would that be.... Of course the targets would be within the wires to make sure it was safe.....

Problem is where to put this stuff. Cannot put it in the river. Very expensive to put it on private land, even with eminent domain.

You make a good point OW. Take the incentive away to come here and the flow will decline. Make it more difficult even once they are here and the flow will start going the other direction.

How about this? Just annex Mexico, Then they have nowhere to migrate TO.

Problem is their infrastrcture is even worse than ours. Would be like when West Germany tried to integrate East Germany back in. They are STILL paying to try and fix E. Germany's decrepit infrastructure.

It will be interesting to see how he handles all the messy details; that's the real test. Will he run roughshod over property rights, snatching a 2000 mile swath with eminent domain? Will some property owners end up isolated outside the wall? Will access to the river be cut, effectively ceding it to Mexico? Is there any possible solution that is both effective and doesn't screw thousands of property owners?

No doubt they'll tunnel, as they do already, but at least they won't be strolling across the border in droves.

JM, demographics suggest Mexico has annexed small but numerous segments of the US.

Where is it, for most of us, that we can decide to take a trip to and believe than free stuff awaits our arrival?

Yes there is much to consider with this immigration issue but lets start with defunding it.

The folks here illigitamate but holding jobs, paying taxes? Leave 'em be.

Folks commit crimes? No deportation, imprisoned, hard labor. Commit malicious violence? Execution.

The biggest problem is gobment entities, at all levels, facilitating this free ride, 'Murican dream, fantasy.

Pretty much how he handled things in his personal business dealings. He loves eminent domain.

At least this time it would be for government purpose

Run that border system right up on that official line. Carve out a hundred yard swath along that 2000 miles. Reimburse the owners richly. It's almost all scrub ground anyway. What does it produce. Heck, make it 220 feet off the border, than we can compute the acreage in a linear fashion. Pay them by the foot.....again, richly. Pay them the same amount we cash rent the best dirt in Illinois.
