Report: CIA set up task-force in 2016 to investigate possible Russian funding of Trump's campaign

A US counterintelligence task force was established by the CIA in
2016 to investigate possible Russian funding of President-elect
Donald Trump's presidential campaign, the BBC
    reported
    on Friday.

The task force included the FBI, the Treasury and
Justice Departments, the CIA, the Office of the Director of
National Intelligence, and the National Security Agency
    (NSA).

It was set up after the director of the CIA,
John Brennan, received a recording of a conversation about
money from the Kremlin going into Trump's campaign coffers,
the BBC's Paul Wood reported. The recording was
apparently passed to the CIA by the intelligence agency of one of
    the Baltic States.

I've chatted with more than a half-dozen intel services about Trump. All have pieces of an ugly puzzle. Devastating.

Trump aides deny summit with Putin planned

Two top aides to President-elect Donald Trump denied a published report on Saturday that he is planning to hold a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin weeks after taking office.

The Sunday Times of London reported that Trump had told British officials that such a summit was being planned, possibly to be staged in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.

"The story is a fantasy," one Trump aide told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity. Another said the report was not true.

Trump, who takes office on Jan. 20, has spoken of seeking warmer relations with Russia.

Here is what I have heard --

WASHINGTON—Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr said
his panel would expand the scope of its investigation into Russian
election meddling to include looking at potential links between Moscow
and individuals associated with President-elect Donald Trump’s
    presidential campaign.

Burr’s new position, detailed in a statement issued with Sen. Mark Warner (D., Va.), effectively reverses
Burr’s position on Thursday, when he shot down the idea of looking into
potential ties between Russia and advisers to the campaign of Trump. The
North Carolina Republican had said the matter wasn’t in the
jurisdiction of his committee’s probe of Russian hacking, and that a
special commission wasn’t needed either because a dossier describing an
extensive conspiracy by Russian government operatives with Trump’s
    campaign hadn’t been substantiated.

“The Committee will follow the intelligence wherever it leads,” the senators said in a statement
that said the scope of the inquiry would include—but not be limited
to—“counterintelligence concerns related to Russia and the 2016 U.S.
election, including any intelligence regarding links between Russia and
    individuals associated with political campaigns.”

Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said late Friday
that his committee will investigate possible contacts between Donald
Trump’s campaign and Russia, reversing himself one day after telling
reporters that the issue would be outside of his panel’s ongoing probe
    into Moscow’s election-disruption efforts.

Burr and the intelligence panel’s top Democrat, Virginia Sen. Mark
Warner, said in a joint statement that the committee's probe would touch
on "intelligence regarding links between Russia and individuals
associated with political campaigns" as well as Russian cyberattacks and
other election meddling outlined in an intelligence report released
    last week.

The committee will use “subpoenas if necessary” to secure testimony
from Obama administration officials as well as Trump’s team, Burr and
    Warner said.

Kellyanne Conway: Details of Russia investigation should be kept secret ‘to protect the public’ --

Appearing on Fox & Friends, Conway was asked by co-host Clayton
Morris about Trump’s planned meeting with embattled FBI Director James
Comey, only to have Conway lash out at leaks coming from U.S.
    intelligence agencies.

“I’m always disappointed how public and sometimes political some of
these figures can seem to be,” she responded. “I’m very concerned, very
concerned. You realize it is the Trump team, only us at this time, that
is not divulging what occurred in a classified briefing.”

“Ladies and gentlemen,” she continued with her voice rising. “It’s
called a classified briefing for a reason. You had the vice president of
the United States making a comment about it the other day. You have
intelligence officials confirming or denying. This classified
information, it’s top secret. Why is it top secret? It’s not top secret
to keep it from the public, but to protect the public.”

Explosive memos suggest that a Trump-Russia quid pro quo was at the heart of the GOP's dramatic shift on Ukraine

The dossier's claim about a Ukraine-WikiLeaks quid pro quo
alleges that Trump would refrain from speaking forcefully, if at
all, about Russia's incursion into eastern Ukraine in 2014. In
return, Russia would provide WikiLeaks the documents it stole
from the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
