Pittsburgh, PA – As a scathing grand jury report reveals that hundreds of Catholic priests in the state of Pennsylvania sexually abused young children, a portion focuses specifically on Pittsburgh where nearly 100 priests are accused of running a pedophile ring where they helped each other prey on helpless children with no oversight.
The report claims that at least 99 priests in the Pittsburgh Diocese were involved in the pedophile ring—nine of whom were not named—and they received help from local officials who refused to explore investigations into the abuse because it was considered “bad publicity” for the Catholic Church. The priests are accused of working together in a predatory ring that was ongoing for years in which they “manufactured child pornography, shared intelligence on victims and gave large gold crosses to certain boys to mark them as already being ‘groomed,’ for abuse,” according to a report from Penn Live.
The accusations have been around for decades, and one of the earliest reports dates back to 1964 when a child attempted to report the horrific abuse he endured at the hands of a priest in his church, and former Beaver County District Attorney Robert Masters shut down the investigation and insisted that the church needed to handle it from within. The church did handle it—by simply sending the accused pedophile, Father Ernest Paone, to a different diocese where he continued in his career and was later given direct access to young boys again. The accusations from 1964 were not the first time Paone had been called out either, and the report from Penn Live claimed that “church officials had extensive knowledge of Paone’s sexual conduct with children as early as 1962 and questions about his ‘emotional and physical health’ as early as the 1950s when he was in seminary.”
Unfortunately, Paone’s story is not unique, and the Catholic Church has a disturbing history of looking the other way and blindly reassigning pedophile priests who had been accused of sexually abusing children and choosing to continue to give them access to vulnerable children.
The latest grand jury report looks at six of the eight Catholic dioceses in the state of Pennsylvania, and it accuses more than 300 priests of engaging in sexually abusing children. That number does not even begin to cover the hundreds of other priests and church leaders who helped to cover up the abuse, in the name of “protecting” the Catholic Church’s image. The report lists more than 1,000 victims, which is a low estimate, as there are likely thousands of victims whose pleas for help were never heard or were blatantly ignored by people in power. As the New York Times noted, the horrific abuse carried out by the priests was shown in a number of forms that affected both young boys and girls:

“The report, which covered six of the state’s eight Catholic dioceses and found more than 1,000 identifiable victims, is the broadest examination yet by a government agency in the United States of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. The report said there are likely thousands more victims whose records were lost or who were too afraid to come forward. It catalogs horrific instances of abuse: a priest who raped a young girl in the hospital after she had her tonsils out; a victim tied up and whipped with leather straps by a priest; and another priest who was allowed to stay in ministry after impregnating a young girl and arranging for her to have an abortion.”

While the Catholic Church has since attempted to claim that the cases were isolated incidents, the report from Penn Live revealed that as many as 100 priests in Pittsburgh worked together and helped each other prey on young children. Early accusations of the pedophile ring occurred in the 1970s when a boy claimed he was introduced to a group of priests who told him to remove his clothes so that they could take photos of him and add those to their collection.

In addition to manufacturing child pornography, the priests have also been accused of using signals to show one another which boys had already been victims of sexual abuse and would be easy targets. The report claimed that they did this by gifting the victims with special gold cross necklaces.
The details of abuse are horrific but as uncomfortable as it makes many members of the public when they hear about the rampant abuse that has been ongoing for decades, it was that much worse for the helpless victims who had their innocence stripped from them and were ridiculed by their elders if they attempted to seek out help. This latest grand jury report serves as a semblance of hope that a small percentage of the victims may finally receive some form of justice.

Twin Cities-area child sex trafficking sting nets 47 arrests during 'Final Four' weekend


ST. PAUL, Minn. — Nearly four dozen people are facing state felony charges after being arrested for attempting to solicit children for sex following a four-day sting operation conducted during the Final Four weekend of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament.
These sex trafficking arrests resulted from an investigation conducted by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), with assistance from the following agencies: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Minneapolis and St. Paul police departments, and 29 additional Minnesota-based law enforcement agencies.
Investigators with the BCA-led Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force conducted an operation April 4-8 in several Twin Cities communities. During this operation, suspects chatted on several social media platforms with undercover agents and investigators who posed as minors or as sex buyers. Authorities arrested the suspects as they arrived at a pre-arranged meeting place for an encounter.
All suspects were booked into Hennepin, Anoka or Ramsey (Minnesota) county jails; their cases will be submitted for charging. Most of those arrested are from the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Following is a summary of the results of this operation:

• 47 people were booked on probable cause felony solicitation of a minor or solicitation of prostitution under 16 years of age;
• 11 people were booked on probable cause sex trafficking, promotion of prostitution; and
• 28 victims were rescued from trafficking situations, including one minor.

"This operation is an example of the aggressive steps necessary to stop traffickers and johns who buy and sell people for sex in our communities," said BCA Superintendent Drew Evans. "We can't let this crime continue, and we must work together to stop it."
"Preying on vulnerable children in our communities is perhaps the most despicable act possible," said Special Agent in Charge Tracy J. Cormier of HSI St. Paul. "Sex trafficking victims pay a price that lasts a lifetime. I'm extremely proud of our HSI special agents, and our excellent state and local law enforcement partners, who work to bring to justice those who seek to victimize children."
The Task Force is led by BCA and includes investigators from police departments for St. Paul, Minneapolis and Buffalo; Anoka and Hennepin county sheriff's offices; HSI; and Ramsey County (Minnesota) Attorney's Office.
Many affiliate agencies loaned resources to this particular effort, including the following Minnesota police departments: Bemidji, Blaine, Brooklyn Park, Cambridge, Coon Rapids, Duluth, Howard Lake, Maplewood, Owatonna, Rochester, Thief River Falls and Upper Sioux; and Minnesota sheriff's offices for Crow Wing, Kanabec and Pope counties.
The following additional agencies provided expertise and resources: Minnesota police departments in Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Edina, Oakdale, Plymouth, St. Cloud and Woodbury; Washington County Sheriff's Office; Hennepin and Washington county attorney's offices; and the BCA-led Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The following victim advocate organizations also provided services during victim recoveries, including Alexandria House, Breaking Free and The Link.
This investigation was conducted under HSI's Operation Predator, an international initiative to protect children from sexual predators. Since the launch of Operation Predator in 2003, HSI has arrested more than 19,000 individuals for crimes against children, including the production and distribution of online child exploitation material, traveling overseas for sex with minors, and sex trafficking of children. In fiscal year 2018, more than 3,000 (3,191) child predators were arrested by HSI special agents under this initiative and more than 850 (859) victims identified or rescued.
HSI encourages the public to report suspected child predators and any suspicious activity through its toll-free Tip Line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or by completing its online tip form. (KUTV) — A patrolman from Louisiana is accused of sexually abusing a police dog and over 20,000 people have signed a petition for his prosecution.
According to a statement released from In Defense of Animals, an international organization that protects animals, Terry Yetman is set to appear in court on April 23.
The organization wants Yetman to get the maximum penalties.

“Thousands of In Defense of Animals supporters were moved by this horrific case and want to see justice done,” Doll Stanley, campaign director for In Defense of Animals, said. “A healthy society protects its innocents: vulnerable children, animals, elderly citizens. Sexual predators must be made to fear the loss of freedom and a stinging financial impact. We call on District Attorney Marvin Schuyler to take zero tolerance stance on bestiality and prosecute Yetman to the fullest if he is found guilty.”

In August 2018, the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit launched an investigation into Yetman's alleged perverse animal abuse. Officials discovered electronic evidence of the once decorated Domestic Task Force officer's acts of bestiality with a retired police dog.
Yetman turned himself in and was booked into the Bossier County Maximum Correctional Facility. He was charged with 20 felony counts of performing sexual acts with an animal and 24 counts of filming the acts. His bond was set at $350,000 according to the press release.

On Jan. 27, Yetman appeared in court. His attorney was granted a continuance. The trial date has not been set yet and Yetman remains behind bars.

Louisiana state criminal code 89 Crime Against Nature carries a first offense penalty of a maximum $2,000 fine and/or a five-year prison sentence, psychological evaulation and no contact with animals for a minimum of five years, according to the press release.
A second offense has a penalty of a maximum $25,000 fine and a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

Another day, another scandal in liberal enclave Portland. Niles Lehman, a science professor at Portland State University, has been arrested and charged with 35 counts of producing child porn.

According to court records, the indictment was handed down in February, followed by the issuance of an arrest warrant, which was served on February 22nd, with his arraignment taking place that same day.
He posted $25,000 bail and was released. Apparently he is on paid administrative leave. Yes, student tuition and citizen tax dollars are still going to him.

A Portland State University chemistry professor was placed on paid leave after being arrested for 35 criminal charges related to encouraging child sex abuse that stem from allegations that he distributed and viewed child pornography.

Niles Lehman, who has a Ph.D. from UCLA, was arrested on Feb. 21, according to court records.

According to a Portland State tweet from 2018, he was recognized as the 2018 Oregon Scientist of the Year by the Oregon Academy of Science for research related to the origins of life on Earth.
Lehman faces 35 charges laid out in an extensive indictment. Twenty-nine charges allege he “did unlawfully and knowingly develop, duplicate, publish, print, disseminate, exchange, display, finance, attempt to finance, and sell a visual recording of sexually explicit conduct involving a child.” The other six charges allege he possessed or viewed child pornography.

According to court records, the allegations date back to October 2017 and span a full year, to September 2018.

The Oregonian adds:

Lehman, 56, of Portland, posted bail in March, Oregon court records show. A judge ordered him to be placed on GPS monitoring, surrender his passport, stay off the Internet, and avoid children and places where they’re likely to gather, the documents said.
When court staff interviewed Lehman in February to help determine whether he should be released, he didn’t mention working for Portland State University, court records show. He said he has a Ph.D. and sometimes drove for Lyft, DoorDash and Postmates.
In a statement Tuesday, Portland State University confirmed Lehman is on paid administrative leave and that the school is cooperating with the police investigation and is “very concerned about the charges.”
“It’s certainly upsetting that there are accusations that a PSU employee engaged in illegal and improper conduct, which is reflected in the charges against Professor Lehman,” the statement said.
Kenny Ma, a university spokesman, declined to comment further on the case, including when Lehman was placed on leave.

Lehman won the 2018 “Outstanding Oregon Scientist” award by the Oregon Academy of Science. Lehman has also received grant money for his studies into where life began, and he is still lauded on the PSU website, as well as the student newspaper site. He’s also given presentations on his studies.
His next court date is scheduled for May 20th.
