Against a predictable strategy, French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron is promoting a phone call today from former President Obama (Audio Embed Below).
Under Obama’s leadership the U.S. State Department has a long history of working to influence elections in France. A killer who shot dead one police officer and seriously injured two others in Paris this evening had previously been jailed for opening fire on law enforcers, and talked of his desire to kill police on social media.
The 39-year-old, named in reports as Karim C, and using the alias ‘Abu Yousuf the Belgian’ made dark threats on messaging app Telegram, it has been claimed.
He was convicted for a 2001 shooting which left two police officers seriously injured, according to reports, and was given a 20 year jail term.
French authorities have confirmed that the shooting close to the Champs Elysees was a ‘targeted’ attack, and prosecutors have opened a terrorism probe.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out with a Kalashnikov weapon. A passerby was also injured.
French President Francois Hollande has said he is convinced that the attack was ‘terror related’, and will hold a security cabinet meeting in the morning.
The gunman was shot dead at the scene.
The gunman has been named in Le Parisien as Karim C.
The French-born killer lived in Chelles, a commuter town close to Paris in the Seine-et-Marne department.
In 2003 he was sentenced to 20 years inside a high security prison following the attacks in Roissy-en-Brie, also in Seine-et-Marne.
But he was let out early following an appeal ruling, giving him the freedom to carry out tonight’s attack.
Karim C was the registered keeper of the grey Audi used in tonight’s attack. A raid on his home later found guns and ammunition, said intelligence sources.
He had targeted a parked patrol car full of traffic control officers working to theParis [sic] prefecture.
The officer killed was at the wheel and was having an evening snack at the time ofhis [sic] death.
French television network BFMTV reports that he had used the Telegram internet messaging service, which extremists have previously been claimed to favour because of its encryption….

Delomez, from the Socialist Party, has been the town’s mayor for almost a decade – since 2008 – and slammed the latest election outcome as “catastrophic,” speaking to the local newspaper L’Avenir de l’Artois.
“It’s likely that I will resign because I don’t want to devote my life to as*holes,” the mayor said, as quoted by the media outlet.
Over the past 24 hours, these words posted on the newspaper’s official Twitter account have been retweeted over 7,500 times, and liked over 6,100 times.
Opinions are divided, with apparent Le Pen supporters urging the mayor to go ahead and quit, saying things like: “If (sic) YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS voted for Le Pen, maybe you missed something.”
Another user said, “I suggest that all the locals in Annezin come forward with a complaint against this one, for his lack of respect towards the residents.”Others cheered the mayor’s rant, saying, “Bravo,” “A superb punchline,” “Send flowers to this man,” and “He is my idol.”
Le Pen, of the National Front, led with over 38 percent of the vote in the Pas-de-Calais department, where Annezin is located, too. Far-left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon came in second with 19 percent.
With 97 percent of the votes counted, the first round of the French election saw liberal centrist Emmanuel Macron leading with 23.9 percent of the vote, and Le Pen coming in second with 21.4 percent. The two will meet in a run-off on May 7. The final results of the first round are set to be announced later on Monday.
The results in the north come as the region struggles with the inflow of migrants. Five months after the infamous Calais ‘Jungle’ migrant camp was demolished, 10,000 refugees are dispersed all over France, with thousands setting up tents in major cities, including Paris.Locals have been quite outspoken, voicing their anger and discontent over hundreds of migrant relocation centers in their towns. In February, around 1,600 people still lived in the streets of the northern city of Dunkirk, RT reported.
