The thing that really got me to move was the atmosphere at my old firm. The politics, personalities, and the fact that the office had been struggling with losing business all made it feel very tense and toxic. I had to get out.

You did the right thing! Life is too short for a toxic place. I used to pride myself on being able to take anything at work, but I wish I'd had quit several gigs sooner or not taken those jobs in the first place.

Networking is good! I hope that you get an unexpected promotion, soon.
