IS THERE SALVATION FOR ROCK 'N' ROLL?

A new book is getting attention in Nashville through billboards that declare “Rock Gets Religion” and “The Gospel is too important to stay in Gospel music.”

“Rock Gets Religion” by Mark Joseph, features a foreword by rock legend Alice Cooper.
The book lays out the case for people of faith to continue to make their music within the popular culture. It shows the promises and pitfalls for Christian artists who have the talent to succeed and the spiritual strength to remain true in a decadent culture.

Joseph has worked as a music and film producer, columnist, music producer, talk-show host and author.

He produced the official soundtrack for “The Passion of the Christ.”

He points to artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Katy Perry and 21 Pilots who have been deeply influenced by their faith.

“Mark Joseph has been a key voice in the transformation of American popular music,” says former Van Halen singer Gary Cherone.

“In this book, his final in a three-part series, he shows us how the transformation happened and outlines a vision for the future of the unlikely alliance of rock music and serious faith.”

Joseph explores the tensions caused when religious youth are thrown into the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

He explores three trends: rookie artists who bypass the traditional Christian music path to go directly to mainstream, established Christian artists moving over to mainstream and artists who have religious experiences who stay in the mainstream.

He also shows the implications of the American consumer bypassing the old record company gatekeepers to determine which artists make the bigtime.
