    Default From the White House

Every child deserves to grow up in a safe community surrounded by a loving family and to have a future filled with opportunity and with hope.
    President Donald J. Trump

HARDENING OUR SCHOOLS: President Donald J. Trump is making sure our schools are safe and secure, just like our airports, stadiums, and government buildings.
    • President Trump’s Administration will assist States to train specially qualified school personnel on a voluntary basis.
      • Department of Justice (DOJ) assistance programs will be leveraged to enable schools to partner with State and local law enforcement to provide firearms training for school personnel.
      • The Administration will support the transition of military veterans and retired law enforcement into new careers in education.

    • The Administration will encourage States’ Attorneys General to audit school district compliance with State emergency preparedness activities.
    • Federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, will partner with States and localities to support a public awareness campaign modeled on “See Something, Say Something” to encourage awareness and reporting of suspicious activity.

STRENGTHENING BACKGROUND CHECKS AND PREVENTION: President Trump supports legislation and reforms to strengthen background checks and law enforcement operations.
    • President Trump’s Administration is calling on every State to adopt Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs).
      • The President is directing the Department of Justice to provide technical assistance to States, at their request, on establishing and implementing ERPOs.
      • ERPOs allow law enforcement, with approval from a court, to remove firearms from individuals who are a demonstrated threat to themselves or others and temporarily to prevent individuals from purchasing new firearms.
      • ERPOs should be carefully tailored to ensure the due process rights of law-abiding citizens are protected.

    • President Trump supports improving the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The President supports the legislative framework introduced by Senators Cornyn and Murphy that will help improve the accuracy and effectiveness of NICS.
      • The Cornyn-Murphy bill will hold Federal agencies more accountable for reporting information to NICS and will incentivize States to improve their reporting to the system.

    • The President supports the framework of the STOP School Violence Act, which provides for State-based grants to implement evidence-based violence prevention programs.
      • Grants will provide States with funds for training, technology, and technical assistance to help schools identify and prevent violent acts.

    • The Administration requests that Congress provide funding in 2018 to jump start implementation of this evidence-based program in middle and high schools nationwide.
    • The President’s Administration will audit and make accountability improvements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) tip line, and will promote its use.
    • DOJ will provide emergency and crisis training for local law enforcement.

MENTAL HEALTH REFORM: President Trump is proposing an expansion and reform of mental health programs, including those that help identify and treat individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others.
    • The President is proposing increased integration of mental health, primary care, and family services, as well as support for programs that utilize court-ordered treatment.
    • The President is calling for a review of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other statutory and regulatory privacy protections.
      • Reviews will determine if any changes or clarifications are needed to improve coordination between mental health and other healthcare professionals, school officials, and law enforcement personnel.

INVESTIGATION: In addition to these immediate actions, President Trump is establishing a Federal Commission on School Safety chaired by Secretary Betsy DeVos and will recommend policy and funding proposals for school violence prevention.
    • President Trump’s Administration will establish a Federal commission, chaired by Secretary DeVos, to address school safety and the culture of violence.
    • While the Administration is taking immediate action on school safety, the Federal commission will develop a process to evaluate and make recommendations on school safety.
    • The commission will study and make recommendations on the following areas of focus:
      • Age restrictions for certain firearm purchases.
      • Existing entertainment rating systems and youth consumption of violent entertainment.
      • Strategies to advance the science and practice of character development in youth and a culture of connectedness.
      • Effects of press coverage of mass shootings.
      • Repeal of the Obama Administration’s “Rethink School Discipline” policies.
      • Best practices for school buildings and campus security from Federal Government components, including the Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, and also from other State, local, and private sector sources.
      • A plan for integration and coordination of Federal resources focused on prevention and mitigation of active shooter incidents at schools.
      • Opportunities to improve access to mental health treatment, including through efforts that raise awareness about mental illness and the effectiveness of treatment, reduce barriers to the recruitment of mental health professionals, and provide training related to violence prevention.
      • Best practices for school-based threat assessment and violence prevention strategies.
      • The effectiveness and appropriateness of psychotropic medication for treatment of troubled youth.
      • Ensuring that findings are sufficiently supported by existing and additional Federal, State, and local funding sources.

When the "STATE" gets to determine who is mentally ill, it's just a matter of time until that definition will change to suit anyone that Big Brother wants it to fit. This is a big time slippery slope.

Agreed. This whole thing is a slippery slope. Notice the Federal Commission will determine the age limits of the purchase of weapons, also.

With the tens of thousands of laws already on the books and the untold number of government programs in place, what makes anyone think this will work?

Laws can't fix the problem, but grace can.

Well said, Pastor, but "God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble". How long has it been when "humble" was a word ascribed to any American President, especially now?

Humble also doesn't typify any of "leaders" today. They are all about power - party and personal. No submission to our Sovereign God.

This is from a thread I started in The Chapel about three weeks ago. It's the only solution to our nation's problem. All other proposals only address the symptoms created by the problem, not the problem itself:

Expanded thoughts about the solution to our country's problems
A day after the school shooting in Florida I shared a few thoughts in another thread about what we need to do to turn our country around. A day or so later I began to expand the piece I had written and then submitted it in the form of a letter to the editor of our local weekly newspaper.

Here is that letter. Please copy, paste and share if you feel led to do so.

    Dear Editor,
As we look around at today's America we are greatly disturbed by what we see. Murders in our schools, senseless acts of violence in every community, addictions to drugs, alcohol and pornography, crime and evils of every sort. The fact is, whether or not we realize it, we are engaged in a great war. However, this war that raging all around us, this war that is affecting all of us is, in fact, a spiritual war.

Whether we like it or not, we are all caught up in this conflict. Not because we live in the midst of what is happening, but because the actual battleground is within us. The field of conflict is in our hearts. The violence and all the other evils destroying our country originate in the human heart. The evil thoughts of our hearts spring forth as evil acts. Truly, what is happening around us is the result of what is happening within us. Jesus reveals this to us in Matthew 15:

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts,
    murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false
    witness, blasphemies:

Many have tried to solve the problems of our nation by implementing programs of various kinds and by passing laws that are supposed to remedy the ills that have sickened our country. It seems the more programs we have and the more laws that we pass, the worse things become. This is because external forces like programs, man's laws and the enforcement of those laws can never change what is within us. Change must take place from the inside out.

As Jesus points out, the problems around us are caused by what is in our hearts. Therefore, the problems around us can be solved only if our hearts are changed. God is the only one who has the power to change our hearts. He is the only one who can deliver us from our sinful nature.

If we acknowledge this truth, and believe in our hearts that Jesus died and is risen from the dead, God saves us and by his power he makes us new creatures. He changes us within. This is something we all need, and God stands ready to do this for us by his power. This is something we can never do for ourselves.

The only solution to school shootings, the violence, addictions to drugs, alcohol and pornography, broken homes and all the other plagues that have come upon America is, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A change in our hearts, wrought by God, is our only hope and the only hope for America. Nothing less than the power of God can save us form the real problem, which is sin. The Gospel is the power of God.

    Romans 1:

16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel
of Christ: for it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth
    ;
to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

If we want to be delivered from the distress that has come upon us as a nation, we must accept the great truth that we need to be saved from sin. We must, each one, humbly bow before God and cry out as David did, "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit right spirit within me." This is the only way we can be delivered from our sinful nature. This is the message that must be received and then shared with others. This is the only way school shootings can be stopped. This is the only way we can be delivered from addictions. This is the only way families and our country can be healed and strengthened.

This is why each school day must begin with prayer. The Bible must be returned to the classroom and read every morning. Violence must be purged from the heart or it will never be vanquished from our schools. We must do this, or we will see much worse happen. Human nature doesn't get better on its own. In fact, when Jesus Christ is rejected, human nature can only get worse.

While not all will believe and be saved, the word of God will restrain much of the evil that would otherwise be done. I know the power the word of God can have even upon a lost person because of my personal experience.

When I was in grade school, the day began with prayer and verses read from the Bible. This is the way classes began in most schools in America for over 175 years. This practice harmed no one, but to the contrary, much good came of it as young hearts were turned toward good and restrained from evil.

Though I was not saved, the reading of word of God revealed to me that there is a God, and that I was accountable to him for my actions. I still did things I should not have done, but I was restrained from doing worse things. Prayer and the reading of God's word every morning instilled in us a reverence for God and respect for others. We also learned the difference between right and wrong.

For instance, I, and many of my friends, carried pocket knives to school. They were tools, not weapons. There were no stabbings and there certainly were no shootings. There were a few fights, but no one ever used a weapon.

It is past time for us to acknowledge that our own efforts and human institutions have failed us. How long will it be before we realize that man does not possess the power to overcome the problems that have come upon us? Government and its programs and laws cannot solve the problems we face. Banks, industries and Wall Street cannot provide what we need. Only through Jesus Christ can we be saved from our sinful nature and only through Jesus can America be saved and become what it ought to be.

As Christians, we know we cannot make anyone believe on Jesus, but we are commissioned by Jesus to preach the Gospel to every creature. Once we tell someone about Jesus, then it is between them and God as to what they do with Jesus.

We must accept and build upon the Truth. We must do this personally and as a nation. A nation that builds upon a lie cannot stand.

Finally, compare the years prior to 1962 with those since. Consider what has happened to our nation since prayer and the Bible have been removed from the classroom. Some might argue that correlation does not imply causation. In this case, the correlation not only implies causation, it proves it.

It is evident that when God is rejected, human nature can only get worse.

That is as accurate essay as seen to date. Thank you Pastor G. I see it as foundational, as that is what it is. The foundation is each and every one of us.

The issue, to play devils advocate here, is that the big picture, nations against nations, fifth columns working toward the death of Christians, seas rolling hard...... is that for those of us who know we are saved by the blood of Jesus, we also know that outside forces controlled by the devil himself are seriously out to get us. Us being Americans, Christians, our nation as a whole, and the free world of the west. As well as all souls. Pity the muslim here.... amongst others. With God, all things are possible...

So to summarize, I say look inward as you say. Trust God, but recognize the evil not only within, but at your doorstep. Put on the armor of God, and never fear the battles ahead.

This is a great essay Pastor. It is exactly what ails us....... and it is a direct result of a long term attack on each and every one of us. The fifth column is real, as real as the devil himself.
Educate others to grow our base of informed citizens, it's tyranny. Spread the Gospel.

Prepare wisely individually. An army runs on it's stomach.

Network with those who prepare wisely and take advantage of the strength in numbers and the economy of scale.

Then, when the curtains come down and the truth is evident to an informed citizenry, we unite and fight the new world order.

    Pastor Guest is correct.

Proposing or passing legislation in an attempt to correct the ills of a dying society will accomplish nothing.

This nation was founded upon unwavering faith in God and started to sharply turn its face from God exactly when the Pastor noted. I was there when it happened and was there long before it happened.

Madalyn Murray O'Hair aided by Earl Warren's court.

Until the nation again embraces God as it did when founded it is doomed.
