Working on A Peace to End All Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East. By David Fromkin, c.1989

Starts in 1908 and runs to the mid-20's, discussing Britain's maneuvering to get more territory under their control as a result of the Great War. Not so much about the war itself, as about the causes and consequences. I was amazed at the stupidity and incompetence of many (but not all) of the politicians and bureaucrats involved. They would add 2 and 2, stumble around, and eventually wind up with 3.

Very informative. There was quite a lot going on in the area that I never learned about. We often think of the war as just being in France and Germany, and the Pacific. A lot more to it.
